oil leak from filter mount on block?
my car has already burned oil, but now i think it's actually a leak. is it possible for the filter mounting point on the block to be warped? i've always used honda filters and i tighten them about 1/4 turn past hand tight with a filter wrench. i just put on a header and there was a drip of oil on the filter; there is never spots of oil where i park, but i assume it's because oil only leaks when the car is on. my car generally has a faint smell of burnt oil after hard driving; oil leaking from the filter would drip directly onto the header.
my friend is having a mysterious oil leak on his integra too. do you have aftermarket cams? maybe the cam seals are leaking. it could also be a leaky head gasket too. btw, when you put on the new oil filter, it should only be hand tightened. that would be enough

Aftermarket cams dont really have anyting to do with leaky cam seals....i have stock cams and they leak like a mother(125k miles!). Def. check the filter mating surface for old gaskets and/or crud. Best bet is to clean the entire motor thoroughly, thet way you can spot any fresh oil leaks.

nope, no errant filter gasket and i don't believe the valve cover is leaking. i'll do a bit more research, but this seems like an odd place to leak.
If it's not from the old gasket (or pieces of the old gasket being stuck to the block) or from misthreading the filter, this seems a little odd. Oil dripping on the header certainly does have a distinctive smell though.

yep.
i'm doing a valve adjustment in 4k miles. i will clean the motor and look for oil afterwards. the car has always lost oil so it's burned/leaked since purchase.

There's your problem... it's supposed to be 7/8 past... that's why there's numbers on them.

Oil filters are supposed to be hand tight only, the wrench is only supposed to be used for taking off the filter. Also no need for sealant if using say a fram or honda filter, just take a dab of oil and wet the surface all the way around, make sure block surface is clean and hand tighten it on. You can get leaks by over tightening.
As for changing cams and getting leaks, you can have oil leak from the cam seals. On these i do use either Honda Bond or Ultra Gray. Just use a thin layer and your set.
