Default Flat spot in powerband...suggestions??

Hi all!

Just want to see if anyone can help me diagnose my current problem. 1st gen b16a, installed about 40,000 miles ago, no major maintenance to it other than oil changes since then.

No tach so I can't quote rpms, but just before (and too long after) the motor opens up instead of pulling harder and harder it "flat spots" til about what i'd guess to be 6-6.5K then it pulls harder to redline.

Would a valve adjustment or something of the like be the cure?? I thought it was every 30K miles or so, or sooner if u ride high rpms a lot. not sure.

doesn't really seem to be losing a bunch of oil or dropping off in gas mileage, so i don't know if that'll help with the diagnosis.

Any ideas?? I'd love to hear them, so I know what direction to head in next.

Thanks 4 ur time.

Might check the engines compression to make sure all is well there. Otherwise Id try doing a tune up just to be safe. New plugs and wires, check timing, check valve lash etc...
