Help...losing coolant (90 civic si)
Hi
My 90 civic si is losing lotsa coolant.
I started to lose it slowly...but now i probably go thru alot of coolant in 2 days...car starts to overheat in 2 days.
I'm in texas now, so i guess the heat doesnt help at all.
I think the previous owner did something to the excess catch can/reservoir.
I'm not sure if this car comes with it or not. The little hose that goes from the top of the radiator fill to the side...there isnt a can there.
this morning i fitted a gatorage bottle to this hose, and i drove the car for about 30 minutes and this botthe is about 1/2-3/4 full.
What could possibly cause this problem?
I'm going to autozone later to get a new radiator cap.
Any other possible causes?
thanks
Franklin

Its coming from the top of the radiator fill area. Right by the cap, there's a hose that goes to the right of the car...for overfill etc. I put the gatorade bottle there to see if i'm losing coolant there or i have a leak. And i guess i dont have a leak.
Its overflowing.

It's supposed to flow out into that bottle. Then when the engine cools down it's supposed to get sucked back in. So the hose has to go down to the bottom of the bottle. And put enough coolant in there so the hose is covered up even when it's cold.
Set up your home-made (gatorade?) bottle like that. If it's already like that, post back with more details. Does it overflow the bottle? Does it leak out anywhere else?

Dude if it eats coolant, you got a blown headgasket. take it to someone who can test it and see, if you put a special chemical into the coolant it will turn a certian color if exh. is getting to it, and then ya know, these are the symptoms of what happend to my sisters 93 civic.
