Default 96-98 Civic Cx w/ 99-00 Si harness **HELP....It's a NIGHTMARE**

I am having a nightmare and a multitude of problems. I have a 96 CX with a 96 cabin harness. I have a LS/VTEC with a 99-00 Civic Engine harness. I did a search, but it wasnt much help. I have 2 of the 3 ecu plugs in my OBDII - OBDI harness, but i have NO clue on rewiring the interior plug.

I bought a 96-00 Civic factory service manual, but am going cross-eyed trying to figure it out.

Has anyone ever re-pinned it?

ANY and all help is appreciated!

i rewired mine and am still running only two plugs. everything works, but my evap purge thing isnt hooked up. as well as my charcoal canister.

I recommend getting a jumper harness to make things easier. plug and play.

why didn't you just reuse your dx harness or just get a ex harness for 96-98 only..

The car had no engine when i got it.

Also, replacing the engine harness is quite difficult since the harness runs behind the supercharger.

I would prefer to either repin that green connector or get a 99-00 civic dash harness.

The a/c system is out of a 00 Si and the subharness for the a/c is also, so i know all about the cable a/c stuff.

I just need to know if someone has repinned the green plug, if so.... can you help me out.

OR

Just try to find the 99-00 civic dash harness.

Thanks!

Like I said before, I did it to my 98 civic but I dont recommend it. You should use the jumper harness. I still have a CEL but it wont let me pull the code. VTEC still works, speedo, rpm, fans, reverse lights etc is fine.....just the evap stuff isnt hooked up.

If you want to do this, then get the 96-00 civic electrical troubleshooting guide and just match the wires on the green plug. there's a couple of wires you need to mess around with on the ecu plugs but i cant remember. Mark all your wires before doing anything so you can put them back to stock when needed(something I didnt do). You wont be able to match everysingle wire, but just do the ones that are important e.i. o2 sensors, fans, etc.... Do one wire at a time or else it can get really confusing.

Usually, engine swapping between a 96-98 and 99-00 civic, with the wiring scenerio, no matter which motor you drop in, you want to use an engine harness that your cars year(s) were made, or you'll run into issues such as yours.

Have you thought about trying to use your CX harness and wiring it up for vtec use?

o ok.
Well then, you *should* be using a 96-98 civic harness (EX) in your car rather than a 99-00 Si harness. They differ in design a bit. You'll have that 3rd plug if you use a 96-98 engine harness and all will be plug n' play.

problem is that it will take about 4 hours to get the old harness off because i will have to drop the supercharger. The damn harness goes directly behind it.

In retrospect had my mechanic thought about it, we would have found/used a 96-98 engine harness. Now im pretty much stuck with what i got.

Also, since im running hondata i dont think i'll be using a v-afc

That should explain my set-up a little better.
