Default Leaking Motor Oil Out Of the Tranny....

I have a 97 Prelude h22a4....This morning going to work I noticed I was leaking oil pretty heavily from the transmission casing. Come to find out it was motor oil not transmission fluid....what are some of my options for troubleshooting this....So far my best guess is a hole in the transmission or a leaking main crank seal.....Not the headgasket...No smoke coming out the tail pipe either. Still runs fine just leaking....the Main leak is right where the block and tranny meet. Anything else you think i may be overlooking??

last time you filled up on Oil did you over fill it? Is it a slow drip or just shows up occasionally, have you hit anything? Be a little more specific man

No didnt overfill the oil....Has never leaked until today...Once the motor gets warm it comes out pretty quick. I think a piece of my clutch may have broken off and was rattling around in the tranny, its happened before...anybody else have this problem with a stock h22 clutch?

Before Honda came out with their own specially formulated transmission fluid, it was regular motor oil that was used in Honda trannys as transmission fluid, a seldom known fact. I couldn't tell you exactly when their tranny fluid came out on the market, but you may just be leaking motor oil from your transmission.

Cool thats what im hoping it is everyone is telling me its not likely for that to ever happen so I had kind of ruled that out. Did you have any symptoms when that happened or did it just happen out of the blue?

Engine main seal or trans mainshaft seal. What one is low on oil?

no symptoms it just happend. if u change it change both main seals (tanny side and pully side) this way u dont have to worry about the other one. i would.when u take it out check the seal for any rips or anything that will tell u if that was the problem. When u put the new ones in be carefull be gentile or it will rip use some oil around it to lub it.

let me know what happens.
