Questions Regarding Hitting the REV Limiter.
Yes ... I've done a search.
I was wondering if someone could explain what is occuring when you "Hit the Rev Limiter?" Is the fuel cut-off, causing a lean condtion with possible detonation? Or do the injectors stop providing fuel, causing no combustion? I'm asking because I hit the rev limiter twice today ... once in second and third. I know that it's not a good idea, but should I be worried? Also, what are the possible ramifications of hitting the rev limit? Bent valves? What would be the indication of engine damage? Thanks

Smoke, fire, new noises, or the CEL are the usual indications that you have screwed something up. Without those (and assuming that everything feels fine) you're in good shape.
The limiter is there to prevent you from doing damage, not to cause damage. I hit it roughly 10x/week at each race when there's not enough benefit (ie, space) to shift. I suspect that if you sat in your car in neutral and just let it bounce off the limiter you could float a valve, but you could overheat just as fast. Being on the limiter means more frequent valve adjustments, oil changes, and well-baby checks, but not certain doom.
