I wouldnt say putting cams in increases wear on the engine - I would say the added strain you put on it by driving harder after getting the cams will be the wearing factor.

Thanks. I was just inquiring because I am buying a GSR next week sometime. Well thats the plan for now. Selling-My-95-GSR's car, I am going to look at it on sunday and I was thinking about dropping in Cam's. I am just looking at my options. I want to bring the car to the track quite a bit and build it up to where he had it before he parted with all his parts. It still has a great base to begin with though.

What cams do you suggest? I can post his setup if that would help out.

I'll guess stock pistons and bottom end? If so then SK2 I or JUN II or Toda B or Crowers? I really recommend compression for the larger cams as you will get better gains from them. You can always run a bigger cam and up the compression later. JUN III, SK2 II, etc. of course going to a larger cam will mean upgrading the valve train again.

yes it does. a bigger cam lobe would actually make the valve travel more, correct? so that would in turn wear the valve guides quicker. not to mention the fact that bigger lobes compress your valve springs more, adding to valve spring wear. and lastly, if your valve springs are compressed more, then they are putting more force on the rocker arms, making the pressure between the rocker arm, and cam lobe greater than it would be on a stock setup, therefore wearing out both the rocker arm and cam faster. but thats just my .02 cents.

So basically, don't get cams if I want my car to last its full potential?

well yes and no... If you're looking for 100k results with out a rebuild then don't get cams or even mod your car that much. If you can say "I will replace things on my motor every season or so.." then cams are good, as is more internal mods, suspension, etc... you get the idea.
