Gas Smell When the Window Is Down
Noticed recently that when I'm driving with the window down, or driving hard, I can smell gas.. Also, when I'm paked, and get out of the car, I can smell it as well. I did a search and some people thought maybe it was the injectors. If they are, would injector cleaner work to clean that up, or do people have other suggestions? Thanks in advance
I think they are saying that gas is leaking around the injector somewhere.
Injector cleaner just runs through the injector to clean the nozzle.
Take your car out for a 'spirited' drive around the block. Then look around the injector seat to see if its wet. If it is then just replace the o-ring.

If you can smell it when you roll the window down, the fumes are from inside your car. Probably, as the window is rolling down, air is coming in and circulating your cabin. You might have a leak where your fuel tank/pump is. Did you recently change your fuel pump or do something funny around that area? Take a look and see. I went to a Honda dealership with a good friend of mines and they said often when people ground their amp cable, they drill down directly above the tank....But in your situation, I'm not so sure. I hope I could of helped you....Let us know what happens....I hope you find the problem.
i had the same problem before too (your situation may be different) I just narrowed it down by cleaning around the injector ports, starting the car, see if there is a leak, and then if there isnt, take it for a drive and check again. Again, it could be the o-rings. not a big deal.
fiy, I had gas spraying out of my o-rings at idle.

hmm..the only thing different from before was... well, i had the timing belt replaced at the dealership, and at that time, they replaced all the belts and the water pump. other than that, i can't really remember what else i have done in the car.
this civic is starting to cost more and more than i ever imagined

depending on how many miles are on your car, you should have expected an h20pump and timing belt to be replaced. THink about it this way: now those dont need to be replaced for a looong time, which equals saved money.

absolutely.. 130k, so it should have been done before that. the previous h-t member told me it was checked.. tech guy showed me the belt... it looked like funky beef jerky.. Needless to say, I wasn't happy about that..or that it had been keyed, or the alignment was shot, or ...the list is long..
Oh well, next priority will be the gas smell..It's tough because I'm juggling modifications vs maintenance

yeah bro if you can smell fuel that's bad. I learned the hard way! I smelled gas around the car & inside the car but just ignored it and it blew up my F22!
It turns out that my Weapon R fuel pressure regulator. The diaphram had RIPPED under a hard run..(my car is automatic too).
fuel was leaking from the FPR and also flooded cyclinder 1 and cause it to instantly snap a rod!
hope you can fix it soon

I can't believe how long I posted this, but I'm still having the same problem.
People have suggested injector cleaner as well. Any recommendation on make/model?
I've never changed seals before... is this pretty easy?

It's probably your evaporative canister, or whatever it's called. That's what collects all the gas fumes from your tank. Might need to be replaced.
yeah I can't remember exactly what it's called but it's the charcoal canister in your engine bay. When it "breaks" you'll start to smell the fumes. Should be cheap to replace, see if the smell is coming from there.
