Default Slave cylinder boot

I hope this is the name of the boot that i am talking about. It is about $15 from Acura. I am thinking of replacing it because it doesn't sit very well in their. It is bent up on some of the corners and what have you for whatever reason. I just noticed it the other day. What exactly is behind this boot and should i replace it ASAP?

It keeps water and dirt from getting into the cylinder.

I just did this [URL]https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=179021URL] fix on my teg and I noticed that part of this boot has a split in it along one of the thicker seams in the rubber. Is this normal ?

you should just replace it. if its not working properly (keeping the dirt n crap from getting in) then most likely its destroying your slave cylinder (letting fluid leak). simple and not too expensive fix for something now that can prevent bigger and more expensive problems later

I put some garden pond repair tape on it so I'll see how well it's bonded and if need be replace

Just to be clear I am talking about the "outer boot" as seen on this pic

and not the inner one here

.

Yeah the one i am talking about is the one to the left of the big bolt up above where your fingers are pointing. I think i will pick one up from Acura and not take the chance

The inner boot (the one the fingers are pointing at) is fine

It's the other one that has a little split. I'm still not sure if it's supposed to be there or not.

Are any of you guys experiencing an anoying squeak coming from the slave cyl when you press on the clutch pedal ?? My 2001 ITR does this and all the dealer does is "lubricate it" but it comes right back after a day or two. Is this going to mess up my clutch assy in the long run ??

Hey, mine does this too! When you press the pedal, it squeak-grinds. Annoying!

White Lithium grease spray from Honda will solve the squeaking problem. You have to have two people to do this. One person to press in the clutch, while the other person sprays the lithium grease inside the boot. I have seen this done at Honda while I was working there.

Use SUPER HIGH TEMP UREA Grease Get it from Honda. part #08798-9002

Lithium wont work well.

Remove the outer boot, unbolt the slave cylinder (DO NOT TOUCH CLUTCH PEDAL!!!!) and grease the Piston tip and mating surfaces, be liberal!
