Please help with type r
I was at the quarter mile with car and went from third to neutral instead of 4th. The car bounced of the rev limiter pretty hard. When I pulled in the pit area I noticed that the exhaust tone sounds different and the car idled rough. The chack engine light came on. I got the codes on it..71-74...or random misfiring. I talked to somebody and they told me my plugs may be messed up, so I changed them today, the #3 plug fas fauled out after that the cel went off, but then later it came back with the same rough and shaky idle. Im coming to a conclution that my #3 fuel injector is messed up because when i disconnect the connector nothing happens to the engine rpm, its like theres nothing there. But when I pull any other injector connector the car dies down. Does anybody have any advise...
P.S.
I also listened to my valve train with the screwdriver trick, everything sounds fine.

if he hit rev limiter, he could have not overreved, this must be related to sometning else.. i've done that many times and few times with raised rev limiter to 9K, i only hit the rev limiter once at 9K,
i'd think you should hit rev limiter in neutral therefore you can overrev..

You use the screwdriver somewhat as a sound telescope, helps magnify the sound underneith the valve cover. Put your ear near the end of the screw driver... at least, thats how I understand it works.

You have bent valves.
The only way you could have bent your valves was if you shifted from 3rd to 2nd. You cannot overrev the motor in neutral, the rev-limiter will prevent you from doing so.
You need to pull the head and replace the bent valves (which means your head will have to go to a machine shop).

You don't just install valves and call it a day. The seats should be machined and the valves lapped in so that you get a good seal. You might as well have a complete valve job done while the head is off, that way your engine will perform it's best. Just don't miss any more shifts
