Default Bore LS>87mm??

Im planning on doing LS/Vtec and i want some nice torque numbers from the motor. I would just go with the B20 block, however it is illegal to do that swap from a truck into a hatch, and i want to get a bar sticker. I was wondering if it is possible and safe to bore out LS to 87mm and then sleeve the block. This will be my daily driver so will any problems arise?? I dont plan to beat on my motor all day, but just the occasional race and some aggressive driving other than that its mostly highway. Also if not to 87mm than what is the higher i can bore and be in safe range for daily driving? thanx.

....87mm is big....too big

....you sleeve then bore, not bore then sleeve;what you are boring is the sleeves.

....why not just 84mm, and then you have created the b20 with a b18 disguise.

....ls/crvtec's already make good tq numbers.

Yea i was thinking of just boring to 84mm, but i was hoping to gain some more torque and i realize 87mm is really big, however, what would be a good number above 84mm.

Yeah, 86 is pretty big, but that what you want. Remeber that down the road you may have to bore and hona again down the road if you were to rebuild your engine. If you went to 87mm, you're not leaving very much room for future considerations.

The problem with bigger bores is the cylinder spacing. You run out of space between the cylinders. If I was going to build a race only motor, I would go with 87mm which is about as big as you can go in a B-series motor. For a daily driver/track car, 86mm is as big as I would go. Actually, I went 84mm, which leaves lots of room for me to rebuild numerous times before I have to resleeve again. It all depends on your expectations and your budget.

hahahha NO! If you want somethig as big as an 87mm bore pick up an h22 sleeve it and then bore it out...b18's are good for bores to 84.5mm but it doesnt leave to much room if you mess it up...aka scoring the cylinder walls. Id recomend some GE or Darton sleeves at a 84mm bore. Give you just a tad under 2 liters in a b18a/b and you will get mad torque if you have all the other parts to support it. Are you going to boost this or na? more info = better responses!

What is going to be done to the motor other that sleeves?

If you are going to leave it NA, then I would resleeve it and bore it to 86mm, which would leave me two rebores and run a CR of about 11.5:1. 84mm will be good as well but then you might as well buy a B20.

Yea im going to go NA with LS/Vtec setup. Its going have aftermarket pistons and rods with ARP rod bolts with CR of 11.5:1 and sleeved and bored to 86mm, with a stock GSR head. Im going to see how much it puts out with the stock head and then later work on the head. Im not going higher on compression since this will be my daily driven car.

Yea you wont be able to get the bar sticker with the diferent head, however, im going to get the bar sticker with the stock LS motor with stock LS head. After i get teh bar sticker than i plan on doing the modifications.
