Default help a newbie 88 hatch b16a

guys, i am far from tuning or repairing cars,
but my problem begins with 88 hatch dx that i bought 2 weeks ago..
it has jdm b16a, tranny with p30 ecu, act clutch, and 2" dropped with neuspeed spring..
my friend set the timing, and the car has unknown exhaust.. with burnt k&n filter..

my problems & questions..
1. when i drive it at 25mph with 2nd gear or 35-40mph with 3rd, i hear some grinding noise from the tranny.. i changed tranny fluid but not fixed..
2. when i drive it over 45mph, i hear some squeaky noise from the front driver side wheel..(could be axle or cv..)
3. when i start the car when the engine is cold, it excessively rattles (i know every car does, but this is too much).. is it normal with swapped engine?
4. what are the adventages of using p30 instead p28?
5. when i put gas on neutral, the car rattles shakes a lot but it goes away as putting more gas..

what am i supposed to do with my car with tiny budget..
please help me out to make my car runs better without problems...

Let's see what I can tell ya...

1) WEIRD - sounds like a transmission problem
2) If it ain't falling off yet, who cares? =P Seriously, if it's a minor squeak, get used to it; if it's major, then give us more info and we'll see if we can help...
3) Excessively rattles? You might have detonation problems or there might be a mechanical problem. Personally I'd recommend getting a valve adjustment done by a dealer (they're pretty cheap) - this will quiet the engine right down and make it run MUCH more smoothly. Plus they will also be able to see if there's any problems with the valvetrain.
4) I have no idea! I don't think there are any, really.
5) Is it idling low? You should also know that the harder polyurethane mounts will transmit more vibrations into the cabin, so get used to it if the idle's normal

1. Sounds like its time for a rebuild....
2. believe it or not, the little squeak coming from what sounds like the driver side front wheel could be your speedo cable behind the gauge cluster (its a tiny little annoying squeek that happens when u go above a certain speed). My friend with an 89 hatch had the EXACT same problem and we were sure it was coming from the wheel, but it wasnt.
3. Thats jus what comes with an old car....plus im sure the stiff mounts the person used before u to do the swap arent helping any, but they all pretty much way stiffer than stock.
4. Has the car been converted to OBD-1? Some ppl like to use the P28 cuz it does not look for a knock sensor like the P30 does, but i believe the redline is lower on the P28 if its not chipped.
5. same as #3

thanks guys,
the noise from the wheel could be from speedo cable like you said..
anyway, i will get a tune-u, timing set, valve jog later..
post the result later!!
and, by any chance, any other idea?

dude when I first started my car I was shocked by the noise and vibration coming from the engine. You'll get used to it. My car idles at about 1800RPMs when it's cold outside, and when it's warm it idles at about 1000RPM's.

The vibration isn't noticeable when I'm driving, only when idling at a stoplight..etc.

Like someone else said, these are old cars that aren't screwed together quite as tightly as the once were

Thats what i would do....or maybe try shoving some grease inside it. I would do that by disconnecting it from the back of ur cluster and putting some grease into the cable....figure its worth a try and u have nothing to lose.

You can just pull out the cable, no need to buy a replacement, unless its bent or something. Just put some grese on it, and feed it back through. Ryan
