Default Picking up a b18a for $550 CDN, what should i do?

SOmeone is selling a b18a block and im thinking of buying it and working on it until i have the funds to buy a complete SIR swap so i can use the parts minus the shortblock to make and LS vtec.

1) Keep it LS/Vtec
2) Boost it
3) N/A (built bottom end)

What are teh advantages and disadvantages of each?
I want something reliable and VERY powerful

i agree that this will be your best plan of action- w/ all that torque & aftermarket cam's your ef will feel STRONG & that's a helluva deal

I wouldn't do an LS/VTEC unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing, and have big $$$ to do it, especially here in Canada. I would just build up the LS and keep it non-vtec.

i was thinking of getting someone to help me out with this build.

Picking up a complete b16a swap as well using all those parts for the swap.
Using the head and pistons

Feel free, but I've yet to see an LS/VTEC that hasn't blown up in short order. I've HEARD of a couple, yes, but all the local ones went blooey rather fast.

It's not really a local issue, it's just that all the LS/VTEC swaps that the odd guy owns around here either burn oil or straight blow up. I've seen it myself. If I were you, I would get a REPUTABLE shop to build one for you, even if you have to get it shipped to your door from the states. It's not worth the pain in the *** to have a motor blow up at the track and have to be towed home.

just turbo the b18a. get a blockgaurd, get a port & polish, new gaskets/water pump/feul pump, and bigger injecotors and youll be fine as long as you keep the boost low if its a dd.
