Aprilia RS50
Gotta Q for you guys, not sure if anyone knows.
I've basically got a travelling job now, we have a bunch of trucks though, and was thinking of getting a small bike that I can stow on one of them as a 'roundabout' for when we get to a major metro area so I don't have to rent cars all the time.
I'm thinking of like a YSR50 or an Aprilia RS50 or something similar.
Now my question is, anyone have an idea of how much insurance will be on something like that?
I ride a 2000 CBR600F4, but I don't insure it as I'm from Washington. This bike I'll need to insure because we'll be all over the place. Or do you need to insure 50cc bikes/scooters?
Again its just city riding but has anyone actually ridden these bikes before? I'm a fairly decent sized guy and realize that I'm probably too big for the bike, but part of the deal is I like that it will be conveniently small.
Cheers,
-k

depends on the state. some places. i think some places concider them as scooters, so no insurance required.
to be exact, these bikes are 49cc.
ive been riding a KSR-1 (with a 80cc motor) for a while, and i love it. YSR50 is a very old bike, and obviosly isnt as fast as the rs50 or the nsr50 or mine. my KSR-1 maxes out at 120km (with the 50cc motor) and 140km/h with the 80cc motor. the RS50 is MUCH faster than a ysr50, which is air cooled, but there are bunch of parts for the ysr50 in the states. the fastest and the most parts would be the NSR50, but most parts are made in japan(JDM). Just dont skimp out on 2-stroke oil. cheap oil= dead motor. always carry atleast a can of 2-stroke oil.... i could go on, but ill stop here
good luck

Man, maybe it's different around here, but it's very hard to find a YSR 50 where I live. I know where a couple of used RS50's are, and you can still buy them brand new, but YSR's are scarce around here. I'd love to have one though.. either a YSR or a RS50.
i dont understand why the ysr50 is the choice of bike for alot of people. from my point of view, its a POS compared to the other 2-stroke mini bikes. TZR, TZM, RS, NSR, NS-1, KSR, there are bunch of better, faster bikes. importing these bikes are easy and cheap anyway.
maybe you should write up a little "how to" to get the 2 stroke import scene going. Seriously though, I'd like to more specifically what's involved in importing something like that. I've got funds from a little fzr400 to reallocate
Hrm... maybe i should.... its rather simple though.... Part it out, send it, done. In some states, you dont even have to part it out. Some states let you bring it in as a "race bike". In Canada (which is where i brought mine in), i had to part it out to bring it in. Ill be sending in some more parts and maybe another mini-bike to a shop called Fun Wheels Honda in NY (this is the guys I sold my KSR to). I think the hard part is finding the person who would do this.
For thoes people who cant find a person, the Aprilia RS50 would be the choice, since there a bunch out there. even then its much faster and overall better than the ysr50. for track-only, there is always the NSR-mini, which is still sold by Honda (obviously no lights).

I've ridden one. I'm 6'4" and 150lbs. Fit is actually pretty good. I mean, it's not plush, but I didn't find myself too uncomfortable. They're fun bikes, though I suggest modding the crud out of it.

If you are looking at keeping the size down get a YSR50, it's tiny, the RS50 is like a full sized sportsbike with a 49cc motor in it, I've ridden a YSR but never one of those Aprilias, the YSR was pretty fun to ride, I could see myself getting bored with it fast though.
