Motor: D15b7
Car: 94 civic DX
Thoughts: Turbo

i want to turbo the d motor on stock internals, how much psi u think i would beable to run safe as a daily driver? ive searched up "turbo d15" and "d15b7" but not much turnouts. i was wondering if anyone else ever did this before they did a transplant or swap?. thanks

First of all, if you're going D-series, why 1.5L? A D-series is weak as it is, so at least get the most displacement out of it by going the stardard 1.6. And why spend money on a turbo kit for a D-series? IMO, I would get a D16Y8/D16Z6 motor and raise the compression. It's cheap and will run you under $1000, not to mention your can keep up with the B16's.

Yes, I know. I'm just saving him from spending $2500+ on a turbo kit or worst a B16 swap.

If you want to shatter your rods, go for turbo. Even a bolt on 4-5psi GReddy kit will shatter them.

Turbo is a bad idea for your motor. For your car year (92-95 in general) a D15Z1, the VX, or a D16Z6, the EX/Si, is for boost. Not the D15B7, DX and LX.

6psi is safe for daily driving. 8psi is still reliable if you take your time with tuning. A number of people are running 10-12psi on stock internals, but that is higher than I would feel comfortable unless you are one of those people with a spare/backup motor in the garage

that D15 is tough, no matter what you guys say, true id buy a y8 or z6 for boost, but a buddy of mine beats the living **** out of his D15 and nothing has gone wrong yet, and its got 130K, its not to smart to sit and redline, and have the tach needle bouncin at the rev limiter.

i would run no more than 6 psi on the d15b7. don't they have the weakest rods out of all the d series? they're tiny.

D15... probably around 5-6 psi, it all depends on tuning

But let me tell you, once you feel the boost, you will never want to drive a N/A car....

it's going to cost you alot of money though in the long run

good luck

I don't see why you guys are still saying boost the D15B7. If he does, you should all agree to buy him a new engine once his blows.

Yeah, I beat the **** out my D15 before I got my Z6, but not under PSI, cause it doesn't work that way.

For your DX, get a 88 D16A6 cam. If you get a 89-91 D16A6 cam, you'll need an adjustsable cam gear too. Then I/H/E.

Or you can do a Mini Me swap....92-95 EX/Si head, ECU, and Wire Harness.

Just don't waste your money on building your DX, cause you've said you got boost already for the B18B. Save your money for the swap.

Well, I have a D15B7 and I have been running 10 psi for quite some time now. People told me that it would blow on the first rev. They were all wrong. Just becasue it is a d series doesn't mean it will just blow up instantly. Any motor can blow up. It all depends on the condition of the motor and how well it was tuned. I have 101,000+ miles on my motor and I beat the hell out of it everyday. I will let you know when it does blow up. Also, if he does boost it, he can always just swap the parts over if he swaps to a D16 or if he changes to a B series he just has to buy a new manifold. That doesn't sound that bad to me...........
