Choice... B16a1 or 90-93 b18a into EG hatch (94 cx)
I pretty much have a choice to make right now. Is there a problem with installing a 1st gen b16a into my EG hatch? A friend of mine says he can do it. HAsport sells the cable to hydraulic conversion kit. Will that be sufficient? Or should I just go ahead and install an LS into my car. Either or I am going turbo. I have plenty of turbo experience just not too much hybrid experience. Please help me out here guys... Im going to throw down cash soon. Id prefer to go b16a and then build from there. I just keep reading about too many horror stories about LS/Vtec. But if going built LS turbo sounds like a better idea let me know guys. Im just looking for ease of install and least amount of headache here... thanks

As far as putting a cable tranny into a hydraulic car, don't do it, the kit is a pain in the *** and very janky, it will need to be shimmed to align up properely and the great thing about the hydraulics is the final gear options you get, with the cable final gears are pretty much set. Now as far as b16a or b18a goes, I have done both and highly recommend the b18. I have a fully built b16 and my b18 with bolt ons, is just as fast and better torque down low. If money is the problem which it usually is, you need to take it a step at a time. start with the b18 no vtec, and see how that goes, and decide wether you want vtev or turbo or both and what you plan to do with the car. vtec heads breath better but an ls motor with a good turbo can get some great horspower as well. As far as the horror stories I dont know who your talkin to, but ls vtec has been done well many, many times, just make sure the oil supply line for the vtec is large enough. They make great power and torque cuz of the stroke to rod ratio. get the ls and start savin your money, and wait for deals that come to you. a good turbo set up is about 4-5 grand, and a proper motor build is even more but you will have a 400 whp rocket, sometimes used stuff is cheaper if you know the history and have cash on hand
Either engine would be alright to install in an EG as long as you are using the engine only and not the complete swap. Get yourself a B series Hydro tranny and using all OBDI components will make the swap a lot easier.
So the 90-93 LS is hydro tranny or not? Cuz he has two LS engines both 90-93 instock. Im trying to call and ask him which they are but he's at work right now. BTW> we're doing this in my garage. I was quoted LS installed for $2000. I also get to learn how to do my own motor swap with that price. So im paying for a swap and knowledge. Thanks for letting me know why not to go cable tranny....
btw. previous cars = 98 gsr turbo, 01 vw 1.8t (t3/t4 ATP kit), 5.0 procharged.... so on

That's the HCP kit in action, on a 95 Civic coupe w/B18B LS motor and YS1 GSR cable tranny. Been on the car for over 2 years now and it's daily driven. NEVER had a "dead pedal" feel, and it's been taken to the track on a few occasions. Other kits out there sometimes give the "dead pedal" feel and don't work as well due to the design and placement of the parts, and how much they allow for the slave cylinder to engage. At first, I wasn't too hot about it either but after driving the car for a week, and doing some pratice launches, it's got my
due to the fact that I put it through a fair amount of abuse, and it's still holding up strong today. I can point out 4 other cars that are also using the same mount and conversion... also works great in their cars. PM me or email me for more details on it.
