Default Stock speakers blown?? What now?

Well to start off I am a newb to the audio world so keep this in mind as I explain my situation.

I still have the original speakers in my 94 GSR and they are crackling when ever I play any music. I went to tweeter and the guy was trying to convince me to buy a set of MB Quarts that come with 6.5's and tweeters for $265. Basically I want to know if I can mix and match a tweeter with a 6.5 or do they have to be similar in some way? Would I have to buy a set for them to work properly? Basically I want to improve sound quality when I replace the front and rear 6.5's as well as the tweeters. What is the cheapest solution to this problem without sacrificing durability and quality of sound? Thanx for your help.

I don't know about your budget but $265...that's pretty expensive IMO. I'd shop around different places and see what they recommend. I have set of 4 JBL's in my teg and still get a decent sound out of it.

dont buy from that guy, hes ripping u off. if u just want it to sound good just buy some regular 6.5's. if u get the mb quartz without using an amp for them they will sound like ****. its kinda like a chain reaction thing with car audio. if u buy good speakers, u will need a nice amp to power them. basically all u need is somethign simple if want it to be better than how it is now. it shouldnt cost u more than $175 for front and back.

Well right now I have 3 MTX 6000 tens and a Kenwood 600 watt amp (not set up yet). I plan on replacing the 6.5's in the front and back as well as the tweeters in front and putting in a new head unit (already have a place to buy). What is the least expensive way to go about this? I just want to know what is a good set of 4 6.5' as well as tweeters that sell for a reasonable price.

OK I AM CONFUSED.

Basically the guy at tweeter said they make 6by9/tweeter combos that have this like little box that runs in between them. He said if I buy a plain coxial for my car it would make the tweeter useless and that it would be best to replace the tweeter/coxial. Now whether this is true i do not know? So should i buy a coxial or buy the tweeter/coxial combo??

check this out... get a new headunit, cuz stock integra headunits are **** and ugly... secondly, stock integra speakers sound worse than **** and are ****... believe me i have so many friends with integras and the sound is simply terrible for an acura, much less a car!!! my headphones to my mp3 player have more bass... anyway, i'll stop raggin on your stock sound system, but MB QUARTS ARE THE BOMB!!!! 265 is a fair price for a set including tweeters, but if u get a decent headunit, the builtin amp is sufficient to power the speakers... and trsut me, you'll love the sound of mb quarts, if i'm wrong well, i'm not wrong, mb quarts are the ****!!!

Heres the deal.

Find out which speakers are blown. You can choose to replace all the speakers, of just the pair that has one of them blown.

If its your front speakers you have two options. Coaxial or component.

Components will have a seperate tweeter, and that "box" your referring to splits the sound between the speakers.

Coaxials have a tweeter right on the speaker.

Assuming your going good quality whichever type of speaker you choose, I would get components. You already have door pods for it in your GSR and it would fit in nicely, plus can sound better (ceteris paribus).

Go out and listen to some components (seperate tweeter) with your ears. Find out which ones you like. $265 is a high budget and whoever recommended a lower priced component like the infinity Kappa 60.5cs ($169) or the reference 605cs ($129) was right, sometimes good sound doesnt cost tons of money.

Now, how did you blow these speakers, do you like bass? do you like to listen loud and crank the volume?

If so, you might want to consider *better* power to your speakers so you don't clip your stock amp and blow speakers again. Two ways of doing this,

1) Replace the headunit with a more powerful aftermarket one...choose functionality and comfort as well as looks to fit your needs. Anything advertised above 40x4 will never make over 20 watts a channel. Remember that.

2) Get an amplifier for your speakers. This will give you much more headroom, you can crank the volume and assuming everything is setup right, get loud, clean sound without fear of blowing the speakers.

Regardless of which you choose, no one here knows what you *should* do... its up to you, My winter car makes GREAT sound off a old alpine headunit with no amps, its loud enough for me, but is that loud enough for you? Only you know.

Good luck, and do your research! No one here wants to see people waste money unnecessarily (otherwise we'd all accept paypal for suggestions)

ok, this is the deal

i had a pioneer 35x4 deck (was one of the top of line in 97), w/ stock speakers in my 95 teg, and i thought it sounded like crap (no bass at all)

i also thought i blew one of my speakers, but it only sounded like that on AM mode when i'm listening to the game (hockey) on the radio

anyways, I recently bought a pioneer 8400mp which is 50x4 MOFSET, and let me tell u, it is like night and day compared to my old deck.

the bass is much much richer, and it almost sounds like i have a very small sub in it. sure the sound quality isn't as great as aftermarket speakers, but I recommend getting a new headunit first, and then listen to ur speakers again. If they're good enough to listen to, just leave it, that's what i did. I have a pair of eclipse speakers at home that i was going to replace in the fronts, but now it's not as urgent that I rip out my front door panels as before (sure the stock paper speakers still suck, but it actually sounds decent now)

i also have a single 12" sub w/ amp, but sometimes I just turn it off when I don't need that much bass

but yeah, get a good new headunit first, then go from there...

but if that's still not good enough, then get a pair of components (which means tweeter + mid) in the front, and go w/ 2 way coaxials in the rear and get a 4 channel amp or something
