What size drill bit would I use for a -10an bulkhead fitting?

The biggest I have is 1/2 inch drill bit. I need to drill my oil pan for a -10an oil return line bulkhead fitting. I have to buy a new drill bit so I wanted to get the right size. Thanks
Don't drill the hole (or even buy the drill) until you have the fitting in your hand!
To say that the fitting is a number 10-an just says what size the inside diameter is and that it's for a #10 fitting. It doesn't say what size the outside diameter is and it could vary.
In addition; Maybe I'm unclear what you are doing but it would seem to me that you would want to braze in a "bung" at the oil pan (and then use an adapter to #10). That is unless there is a reason to have an internal pipe to direct the oil.

Use a hole saw or fly cutter. Or, use a small drill and drill many holes around the edge. A large diameter spiral drill will be a disaster in thin material. And, what the other guy said, don't drill until you have the part in hand, OR, have the mechanical drawing of the bulkhead fitting.

use either a -10 weld fitting or a 1/2" NPT to -10 fitting instead.

Any reason why?
