Default Do we need v-tech transmissions?

I was talking to this guy who has his own shop so I would imagine he has a clue about what he is talking about. He told me that if I diddn't have a v-tech tranny then I shouldn't go rev the hell out of my engine because I would throw a rod and all this other crazy stuff. I don't know if he is right or not but if he is do I have one on my 98 SH or how can I check? I would also like to know what the difference is between a v-tec tranny and a regular one if there is any.

There is no such thing as a V-tech transmission, there are however, engines with VTEC. In the case of a 4th gen an h23 transmission can be used with an h22 engine, your mechanic was probably talking about misshifting and over-reving the engine causing it to bend valves.

1. Owning a shop does not mean that anyone at that shop knows what the hell they are talking about when it comes to cars, and #2 proves it.
