Welding stainless to mild steel?
Something like SS exhaust tubes to mild steel flanges MIG is fine, you could TIG them if you wanted to I guess.
Something delicate should be TIGed for best results, oil pans, thin sheet metals, etc.

Ive been welding all of my manifolds with a high-silicon stainless filler-metal for about a month now. Mild and Stainless. So far, no problems. But ya, Oil pans you want to be TIGed, anything else, MIG will do the trick.
This is for a downpipe (vband flange to 5 bolt flange). Has anyone actually done this, because I'd like some advise on how ot prep it, voltage, etc? I am going to be welding with a 110v Miller, and I can run either pure argon or argon/co2 mixed. Thanks.
Yeah, mild steel to mild steel is no problem. TIG will look better, but probably won't make a difference in terms of strength

doesnt have to be tig'd....but tig'd is stronger and looks better. if ur going to tig it, the make sure to use 309 filler (welding dissimilar metals). u can even use stainless wire on the mig too.

I don't have problems welding bungs or returns on oil pans or sheet via MIG. Play around with your machine, it just takes a little finesse.
