Wouldn't the 4" tweet be less than optimal for a car? Probably poor off axis response because of the large size.

no im asking about the jl 3 way system (xr653 for instance) with 6" mid driver 4" mid and 1" tweet.....i just wanted to know how they sound compared to other common speakers on the market

We have installed that combo as well as Boston's Pro653 in few cars
(Accord/Prelude/CRX..as well as the typical SUV) 6.5 was mounted
in doors while 4" and 1" were mounted in custom kicks. They sounded
okay. The prelude and rex also had 1/3 octive eq's as well.

Now I labeled the sound as okay,because its subjective...I thought they
all sounded great...while you may not like the end result. I considered
the 3 way setup based on the crx install...but what you decided is all
up to you....Just remember these rules:

1. Less in always more. A few well placed speakers will outperform
a lot of speakers anyday.
2. KISS
3. You only have to please one person....YOU.
