Cold engine and noisy valves
Hey guys and girls
I noticed that when the engine is cold, it sounds like the valves are clicking a little loud. However, when the engine warms up, it quiets down. Anyone else experience this?
Thanks in advance!
Eric
BTW engine wise the car is stock (no intake or exhaust)

Mine's is the opposite. Quieter when cold...except for the start up where it rattles like a tin can before oil pressure builds up.
When the engine is warm, the camshafts are slightly bigger than when it is cold. Heat expands the metal, causing the gap between the rocker and the cam lobe smaller, having less ticking sound. This is what I've been told, makes sense to me.

Valves never actually close once engine is warm. Almost but not quite.
Injectors will tick upon startup. Do a valve adjustment and check. You may be loose on a few valves. They are easy to find once they are loose.

I dont think this is a problem at all. My engine does it. So did my GSR. I think it just has to do with the natural physics of the material that engines are made out of. Like the other people said gaps and other things that play in to extreme temp differences.

You are correct. I was under the impression that only larger engines, such as camaro/trans am ls1's, which are famous for this, would only suffer from this problem.
Get a valve adjustment and go from there.
