What to look for and be aware of when buying a used S2000
Hi, my name's Paul, and i'll soon be in the market for a used S2000. I've admired the car for a long time, and think it to be my ideal "next car." getting one new isn't realy an option, but i'm fairly confident that i can settle with a used one
hehe. Asside from simple things, like checking to make sure the top, interior, and exterior, etc, are in nice condition, what are some problems that s2000's have over time that should be looked for when buying one used? i don't want to get a new used car and have stuff start breaking on me b/c i didn't check it out first. thanks alot for any help you guys can offer, and i hope to be an active member of this comunity when i get an s2000

I would look at the age and sex of the driver....young male...and you know he drove that thing pretty damn hard......old male....and you know he babied the car......it's just generalizing, but I'd seriously keep that in mind....mechanical....who knows what could be wrong...but if he has a paper trail then it should be fine
yeah, i was thinking the same as well. i just wanted to know if there where any common problems amongst all s2000's, like "from the factory" bugs and stuff. thanks for the help man,
Paul~

I'm young and male and i can say i baby my car, it rarely rev's over 5000rpm... so that statement is the same as saying the car has been driving by a lady so it'S good.

I totally agree with you. I'm 22 and my car is my baby. I think mamaboy should not stereotype because a know a lot of old guys that track their s2000's and drive the crap out of them. So my advice would be to take a mechanic (trusted mechanic) with you and let him drive it and check it out

hahahahha.....so your saying you never pushed your car to its limits..bounced it off the rev limiter....because you guys baby your car.....we all baby our cars....but I'd say I have a better chance of ******* something up then an older person who probably is just going through some midlife crisis....don't kid yourselves....when you say you baby your car you mean you love it to death....but you probably drive it like ****.......but that's just my logic....flame me all you want...but insurance rates tell it all....it's just statistics fellas.....not stereotyping but just from plane numbers........
I disagree with that statement Im 18 and more old men try to race me in there s2000s then anyone I baby my car so honestly just kinda hard to tell it dosesnt really matter if the overall car is in good shape u could always buy a new motor

I know what the statistics are, but statistics don't cover everyone. I have pushed my car to its limits before, but every s2k owner has. I don't do that everyday or even every week. A lot of older owners I know though do push their cars every weekend to the max on a track near dallas, austin, college station. They can afford a 1000 clutch repair or a 4000 engine repair. I can't so I baby the car. It's not even a daily driver. I beat the crap out of my 97 nissan. So I am one of the many exceptions to the statistics that insurance companies use.

I'm 21 and i baby my car i mean baby it. I have my S 2000 and a crap 1991 jetta. My S doesnt come out in any kind of bad weather i dont care if it is drizzling it stays home and covered. But i will also say that when i drive it i am calm on it but i wont lie and say i never drive it hard at all. Its a SPORTS CAR and should be driven hard from time to time.
Driven Hard though, not stupid.

if you're past breakin and want to drive hard, give the motor ample time to warm up to normal operating temps before engaging vtec. i read somewhere that even though you might have 3 bars on the temp gauge which indicates its ok to VTEC, its really not. you need to give it an additional 10 minutes to fully warm up the oil INSIDE your motor.

lol, I fall into the "old male" category, but I drive the crap outta mine, the car actually needs it from time to time. Yeah I baby it sometimes but most of the time it gets it real good from me.
