let me guess....you have aftermarket radio?
i have seen this where i work about a hundred times. the adapter harness that plugs into the factory harness has a wire on it that gets power from the dash lights and since most aftermarket radios don't use this wire it is usually just left loose. when it finds a ground(almost any metal in the dash) it shorts and blows the fuse. if this is your case then check the wires on the back of the radio...most of the time the wire fron the adapter harness is orange. tape off the end so it won't touch anything.

Did you smell anything burning or see any smoke? Something internal (not visible) may have melted causing a short circuit.

the problem isn't a lack of ground...it is a short to ground.

damn brent......that sucks big time. i'm having problems with my old lights too......the interior and running lights dont come on until the feel like it. sometimes they pop on after about 4 minutes, sometimes never. have you checked relays? it kinda sounds like you might have a fried relay, but i cant say anything for sure

i've had this problem for a couple years now. i took it to a few shops and they couldn't tell me anything. so one day i tapped into the red/black parking light wire, hooked up a toggle, and ta-da! they work.

but if you want to find the short, take out the blown fuse, hook up a multimeter to the fuse slots. then wiggle harnesses that contain a wire linked to the fuse and watch for the voltage to spike. it'll give you the general area.

HTH

this also happened to me before, there was a loose wire touching a ground and melted my dash wires from the parking light swtch all the way to the radio. I had to pull the dash off and replace the burnt wires.

You should pull out the radio harness and check out all the wires running through the dash and to the switch, just to make sure. FOr a fact theres a loose wire that is touching metal and it just blows the fuse each time it is turned on.

For future reference its not really a good idea to use higher amp fuses than whats recomended, thats how fires start. Also you said something about removing a AF gauge, when you installed it did you splice into any wires? Because when you removed it if you left any bare wire exposed that could cause problems too.

i followed all those wires...taped them if they were bare...pretty much just removed anything that i think could make it do this...thats what its all a mystery right now

has it been raining lately? I've seen bulbs crack and get water in them before... it's a shot in the dark, but try pulling each of your bulbs out and test them.

well as of the moment fuses arent blowing...but it has happened before...my car will get my hopes up and then snap a fu se will blow...i think i found it tho...the wire harness in the dash that was behind the cluster...well the harness was getting pinched between the dash and the metal frame....and there was a red wire that was indeed spliced a lil bit on the metal part which infact would be a ground for the car...so hopefully that was it...cause im itching ti installl the ef8 sidemarkers...
