Default yesssss someone broke into my crx

yes its true some one tried to steal my rex ripped apart the steering column and ignition, he wouldnt get too far if he did get it started cause i can hear my rex from my room anyway. buttt
my question is all he had to do on a regular set up is take a scrww driver to the ignition and start it with a scrww driver?
i have a key that shuts off all electrical wiring to my car mouted to my roll bar and i guess he was a rookie at stealing cars because he had no clue that he wasted all that time.
did some damage to my door by his way of getting in......
used a coat hanger to unlock the hatch climbed in threw the hatch and started the process.
now my door leaks when it rains and ruined my ignition and steering coloumn sometimes i wonder why i put all my time to this car when someone can steal it in 10 minutes when i put 100 hours into it

Well, Someone broke into my Accord and tried to steal it a couple weeks back. they broke the window, and they used a screwdriver to destroy the ignition but when they couldn't steal it they emptied out the amps bass and everything, including my books for college. I have been winging all my Finals without studying this semester. I just went online and ordered 2 extra pre-ban 15 rnd magazines for my desert eagle 9. i hope they try to come back for my crx, if they do you will probably read about it in the NYTimes.

That sucks man. Honda's are the easiest cars on the planet to steal. The only thing they have to do is get a ruler and slide it down the door just behind the door handle and push down to pull the door handle open(this works on power and non power locks). The reason they use a screwdriver is because that plus a hammer equals key and no more steering wheel lock with one hard hit. If you really want to secure your vehicle take what i've told you and try to keep people from doing what i said they do. Alarms are basically useless even ignition cut off devices. All they have to do their 9 times out 10 is rip out the little black box underneath the dash and cross 2 wires(teeth and twist - 5 extra secs?).

Anyway its happend to me and yes it does suck. $3500 worth of stereo equipment gone in about 35 secs. I learned my lesson.

Good luck

Why mess with all that when you can just pull up with a tow truck. Lift and leave. No mess, no fuss.

plus most alarms have a mercury switch to turn off if they are being towed.

My shop Installs Viper, Code Alarm, Clifford, Prestige, and Ungo, and none of them have any kind of "towing shut off".

well one thing is for darn certain he could have used that same flathead screw driver to go through window, in a second. CRX's are easy to steal if you really think about it. I would get an alarm, and make a few cutoff switches to the fuel pump and various other electrical stuff on top of the alarm as well.

Going into this much detail isn't the best way to stop thieves that are just learning how to steal cars... not to say it would totally prevent them from not learning but still...

yeah mercury switches suck, I had an alarm installed in my old car when I worked at best buy, I told them not to use a merc switch. If my **** is gonna get towed I want it to annoy the person in the process.

they would just chop that off like they do everywhere. I know you all hate it, but the way they do is is pry the window back with a screwdriver. Now what a freind of mine did, is shaved his door handles, and unhooked the door things from inside, only way to get it open is to pop it with the popper. That is a great idea if you ask me. The only way to get in is to break the window and climb in...

make a clutch switch...that way the car wont read that the clutch is depressed and wont crank.

there was this kid i used to talk to, he had a 94 civic with an air-ride, like 6 subs, and a whole lot of other stuff. some guys with a tow-truck stole it in 27 seconds in a mall parking lot...it was caught on tape

well I think the best thing u xould do is just put as many deterants that u can. As for me I have an alram with 2 bats and 2 sirens, The Club, and i disconnect my fuel pump when i park with a switch. I also take out my face.

Ok.... I just had to reply to this post. I work for a towing company, and I own a Repo business. Hondas are some of the easiest to get. Whether I am reposessing or impounding one, there are many techniques I use depending on the situation. Anything '96 and newer I can use the key code provided by the leinholder to get a key made, and just drive it away. (DMV works great on this.... a records check/title check about 10 bucks in my state, contact the leinholder, and then
Cut-out switches..... OK... these ones I just grab with my truck. Honestly, I dont care which end I get them from (front or back... I can get them to a safe place to spend 10-30 secs unlocking them using my tools)
Alarms..... Dont mean much to me..... cut the siren wire. If it has starter cut off, I spend a little time disabling the alarm system..... doesnt take me more than 20 sec... cause I used to install most systems. If it does have battery backup, not much problem either.... 10 seconds more.
Club..... saw through the steerin wheel and bend. Disables the club nicely. Also I can get "club destroyers" which are the opposite of steering wheel pullers. However there are some newer club type systems that connect to the brake pedal that are supposedly harder to screw with, but I doubt that cause a 20lb sledge aand a pry bar will disable most anything.
These mercury systems you guys are talking about.... most repos-towers dont care much cause if it makes much noise and makes them mad, they will cut the batt cable, and if that doesnt work, go for the siren - alarm horn positive wire. But most likely, the person that is providing the services will just haul *** and deal with it back where they store the vehicle.
On a final note, the hammer screwdriver works well for when we cannot get a big *** tow truck in where the vehicle is. We only use as a last ditch effort to repo/impound a car and we really try to not damage the car. Getting into any honda with the proper tools takes about 30 seconds, and there is no reason to damage anything without a really good reason..... even then, any damage is taken out of what we get paid...

Got to love the pro's, they make it sound so easy. Well i had a little idea, me and a buddy were discussing it because he just got his 91 hatch painted and we dropped a b16 in it plus he has quite a bit of sound equipment. Obviously this only works if there not gonna break the windows. What we did is took a sheet of galvanized sheet metal and bent is like so l_
l
We attached the upper part to the door and the part that comes out covers the door lock assembly so any tool such as a slim jim can't be used to open the door. Obviously a pro will get ur car no matter what you do, but i think real pro's don't go after Honda's like my friends 91 hatch. But if you can frustrate and detur the amatuers, hopefully they'll move to the next car.

I'll have to remember all these things when I move to Phoenix. I live in a small college town and "knock on wood" i've been lucky since I bought my CRX almost 2 years ago. When I move out west, I want something to protect my investment. One of my professors goes to these national things for car theft, that I guess you have to be invited, and they take your fingerprints and **** before you can go in. One thing no one has hit on is Lo-Jack. I know you have to find out it's missing withing like 30 minutes or it's no use anyway, but what are people's thoughts on that?

i dont even know why i am posting in this thread. but i see alot of people talking about simple cut off switches. heres an idea: buy a connector. and wire up a few switches and make a nice pretty control box. but with the connector u can unplug it and take it with u.

so now the theives need to find the plug (hidden under your carpet or whereever and then they need to figger out which wires to cross, blowing some fuses in the process. sounds like a good idea, i might try it....but no one wants to steal a wagon
