GT30 vs. SC61
Did the GT30 go out of style when precision came into the picture. I haven't read anything about the GT30 lately. Vaportrail and Cheapturbodotcom were the ones selling these.
Is it even wise to compare these two? What are the differences?

talked to harry at preicsion he also thinks the GT sereis will own the SC due to faster spool time etc.
There is new line coming soon to replace there sc50 that will be ball bearing and will be competiviely price and spool almost 1200 rpm early. major difference.

I don't know for sure but it seems the sc61 is essentially a non ball bearing gt35r .The compressor wheel in the sc61 is a gt 40 family wheel but is actually used in thr gt3040 600 which is in the 35r.

yup. SC61 is a non-ball bearing GT35R, or GT3040. Its the Largest of the GT30 series turbos. The SC61 uses the GT40 compressor wheel in precision housings w/ precision exhaust sides at a much more affordable price then the GT35R. You basically get the same flow but with slower spool up.
As for now there are no precision alternatives for the smaller series of GT30's like the GT3035 (56 trim) and standard GT30 (52 trim) but I would like to see some in the future.

is a sc61 with ball bearing option cheaper than the GT30?
I really like what I hear about the GT30 and am really considering it. Like VaporTrail said, gotta have best of the fleet that is good for you application.

yes, but you still dont get the exhaust side that you would get in the GT35R. ball bearing isn't the only reason the GT35R spools faster, garret made advances in the exhaust wheel and the housing for quicker spool and better flow as well. But that is why it is so expensive. I think it retails for 1800. Just remember the GT35R(GT3040) is the only of the GT30 series turbos that can flow as much air as a SC61. The GT3030 and GT3035 are smaller.

per harry you are looking at over 4months or so<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by LEON »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">... how soon is soon? I'ld like to get one of these new ballbearing Precision turbos, but cant wait much longer than a month or so.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Just to clarify, the GT3040 is NOT the same as the GT35R the turbine on the 35r is much larger than that used in the 3040. I definitely know, cause i've owned both turbos in the last 6 months.

they do use the same compressor and wheel though correct?

They both share the same compressor wheel, but the 3040 uses the 2.16/2.36 turbine wheel vs. the 35R's 2.45/2.68" turbine wheel. That is really the only difference. Both use the 2.41/3.22 compressor wheel. Most 3040's i've seen have the To4E compressor cover, where the majority of the 35R's have the T04S or T04R compressor cover..... Just preference I guess.....

which trim wheel do u want? isn't this going on an LS? I would go w/ the smaller 52 trim 2.17/3.00 wheel that flows 50lb/min. thats pretty much perfect for an LS
