Car runs like crap after using 93 octane?!?!
I decided to run some 93 octane through my car the other day to see if i noticed any performance gains(I usually run 87). My car now sputters at full throttle at almost any speed. It usually happens in vtec. Could it be my timing(never had it checked since the swap) or do you have any other ideas. It feels as if it is hitting a fuel cut off but then fires up again. I have a new fuel filter ant the injectors were profesionally cleaned within the past 10,000 miles.

The SI guage cluster says to use only premuim gas for a reason buddy...I doubt it if it was the 87 octane that was hurting you.

Yes for daily driving and it runs fine(hit vtec very little). I travel about 500 miles a week so the few cents per gallon saved adds up. I'll use 91 if i ever plan on going into vtec often. The motor now has 26,000 miles on it since it arrived from japan and runs fine.
BTW thanks for the wonderful info

I switched from 93 to 89 for 2 tanks of gas and my B16A ran like pure dog ****...it even cut out severly while driving on the highway.

Try checking your plugs and resetting your ECU. If that doesn't work, siphon as much fuel out as you can and refill. That should do it.
Yeah man...oh and sorry if I took your thread OT any, but I would say that you got ahold of some bad gas. What fuel pump are you running and how many miles on it? But a little word of advice, don't continue to put anything under 91 octane in your car. I know how you feel, that's why I switched for a few tanks to 89 octane. I'm a broke *** college student...just suck it up and pay at the pump. It beats the $ of rebuilding your engine.
Now that i'm going to be out of school in a week and i'll have a job, i'll be putting in 91 all the time. Hopefully i can buy another dailey driver and make this the project car. I'll try getting all the gas out of it first. thanks

running higher octane on a car that doesn't NEED it is stupid. It's just a waste of money.
If your car was running fine on 87, with no detonation, I would keep to that. 87 octane Chevron gas with Techron....good stuff!
search about gas...there was a thread the other day where Spoon Hybrid and myself explained the reasons why "running higher octane in a car that doesn't need it" is stupid

but its a b16, he needs to be running at least 91 octane. high compression NA motor is not somthing you want to put cheap gas in.

last time I checked the b16a called for 92 octane.

When I first got my civic..way back when...I put cheap gas in it and heard it ping, called the dealer and he said to run the middle grade. Never pinged since, so I just run the middle grade with a fuel additive ever oil change, runs fine.
I used cheap gas because I didn't have a choice and watched my car stall going DOWN a hill in San Francisco...
