Civic is overheating even after new rad, thermo, coolant, water pump....why?????
Could someone please tell me why my car is still overheating after all this stuff has been replaced? New radiator, thermostat, water pump, coolant, catch can(I just wanted a new one) and I even tried taking the thermostat out and that didn't help. What could possibly be wrong? Also, my heater stops working. If I rev it to like 6000 it kinda gets warm, but for the most part it doesn't work. There could be no explanation for this except the stupid blockguard. Yes, I have one of those retarded things. I ripped the head off thinking the blockguard was to blame and pushed it down further. That also did not help. I tore the head off again thinking the holes in the blockguard were too small, drilled the holes very large. This also did not help. What is going on here? I'm selling it (not really)if I can't fix this because this is just rediculous. Please help me. Any suggestions would help, anything..........
are you getting a check engine light? i had a problem like that on my sol (accept i didnt replace all that stuff). my car would overheat and then my check engine lite would come on. (light would come on after i realized it was over heating, nice safty light huh?) but anyways all it was was a $2 coolant sensor near the back of the block right under the head. get a shop to check it out for you if you dont know how to test it.
I'm not even getting a check engine light. So on your car, the sensor actually made your car overheat or are you saying your car wasn't overheating, it was just the sensor saying it was? My car is for sure overheating. I was thinking maybe it was a sensor, but it is infact overheating. I'm lost. To add to my list of new things, the rad cap is new, the headgasket is new and there is no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant. So basically my car is overheating for no reason at all.
radiator fan working? power flushed your cooling system? bleed the system of air?
could be something stuck in the cooling system. I'd take out the blockguard and try it again. why do you have it? is it boosted? details man. car, engine, condition of it, etc....

I hot wired the fan to run constant. It is boosted, but I turned the boost all the way down and it doeesn't help. How do I power flush the cooling system? I have loosened that bleeder valve and let the air out a bunch of times.
My next step would be take the blockguard out, but I'm not even sure if thats possible. That thing is in there. I would probably do allot of unwanted damage taking it out.
The car is a 94 Civic with a D15B7. The motor is strong and well built, except the botoom end, but it is still a strong motor.
I think I only have one more reply left today becasue they limit me to 5 posts in a 24 hour period. How long does that last for???? Thanks for your help.

Does your coolant reservoir fill up after you boost? IM me if you cant post more than 5 times here, ill try and help.... ive been in the overheating blues PLENTY of times...
i read somewhere that some blockguards can actually cause overheating problems, b/c it doesn't allow coolant to circulate properly. maybe your radiator crapped out on you, and is not efficient anymore.

i have heard that the holes in the blockgaurd sometimes do not line up with the coolant passages in the cylinder head. some food for thought. id check it out.
Jack up the front end trying to get the rad. at the same level as the sensor in the head or higher.
Let the air bubbles work there way out...My buddy (local Honda mech.) kept squeezing the top hose to try and get more bubbles out.
Keep the rad over flow at max level also.

The fact that the heater isn't working makes me think that there's either a blockage somewhere or that some of the coolant lines all not hooked up right. If you didn't replace the coolant lines, I'm inclined to think it's a blockage. If you did, I'd say you probably hooked one or 2 of them up to the wrong bung on the firewall or something.
Part of me really does wonder whether or not the blockguard is the problem though. Has the engine run a normal at ANY point since it's been in there?

Check all of your hoses make sure theres no blockages, also make sure everything is sealed well becasue if the system ever has a tiny little air leak, this will drop the boiling point of the water and cause overheating. But I have heard many stories about blockgaurds causing this.
for one, since u wired the fan, make sure its pushing air towards the motor. did u ever put those quick fixer addatives that seal off holes in radiator or blocks? becasue if so, these things clogg up ur heater core.... for this disconnect the two hoses that are attached to the heater core and through one end insert water using a pressure hose to wash whatever is in there out..... that would be the only reason why u get no heat in your car... it could possibly be punctured.
check the rug under ps dashboard to see if its wet... if so the core is leaking. check the radiator and check for oil residue mixed with antifreeze. check what color u oil is... u have a problem if it looks like chocolate milk....

Had the same problem with my D series motor in the Cx. 2 weeks ago finsihed the GSR swap and it started over heating. Turned out it was the radiator fan not working.
But, you say yours is wired in to stay on constantly, so I'm lost.
Good luck and keep us posted on the problem.

I'm pretty sure its fixed now. I took the head off (3rd time) and drilled the wholes in the blockguard almost as far as I could. My heater is working now and it is staying cool. I'm thinking the holes in the blockguard were just way too small and it was holding a huge air pocket in there. The head looked really dry and no coolant came out when i took the head off this time. Another thing was when I put it back together and checked the fluid after I started it up, it was really low. I added like a half a gallon. Thats strange because no coolant came out when I took the head off and it was full before I took it off. What a nightmare this has been.
Thanks for all of your replys. It really helps.

I take it you didnt get they cylinder walls re-honed, many times just smashing a block guard in will distort the cylinder walls, even if its the smallest ammount.
Nope. Why would that cause it to overheat like this? I'm kinda shooting to blow it up now. I'm just going to abuse the hell out of this motor until it blows. I want something bigger and better.....B16???????H22????? I dunno????? I have the boost bug and I want more. This motor is not capable of what I want now. I'm just gonna go for it ***** to the wall.......My ******* transmission broke into a couple pieces and my motor has overheated too many times for me to feel it is reliable.

if you want to give up on the motor then a b18 engine will do you some good. plus it's a pretty much a bolt on affair for your 94 civic
