just got my 2mm head gasket, got a question
I just got in the mail my inline pro 2mm head gasket, it says in the install tips
"With the use of head gaskets thicker than 1mm, cam timing will be altered. To compensate, we strongly recommend the use of adjustible cam sprockets."
Do I really hafta do this? I have a d16y8, only the mods listed in my sig. Will it be bad if I do not get a cam sprocket? Is there anyway to compensate for the timing difference w/o a cam gear? THANKS !!!

Well there isnt really a way to adjust the cam timing with the stock gears. I do not know how much 2mm will equal in cam timing. Maybe somebody can chime in on that one.

There isn't really a commercial way to say how much you need to adjust the cam gears it really differs from car to car I know when I had my gasket in I never had to adjust the gears one bit sence the timing was right on.
Now if your head has been resurfaced and or if your block has been decked you will have to adjust the gears for sure.. Now for some of you guys that are still looking for an answer you shouldn't have to adjust the gears more than 1-2 degrees if you just put the headgasket in without any resurfacing of the head.

Thank you for the reponses..
I dont have anything else done to my head (no resurfacing or anything like that) Im just adding this thick headgasket. Is it hard to adjust a cam gear? Or do I have to tow my car to a dyno to find out exactly whats goin on? As for install, is it hard to do? Anyone have any good sites for install? Any additional info would be greatly appreciated

Well the installation of the cam gear is pritty easy (depending on your skill level) all you really have to do is take the covers off of the timing belt and than loosen the bolt on the cam gear itself off, loosen the timing belt, and than just slide it off of the cam gear. Than just switch the gear and the installation is really the reversal of the take off process plus making sure your timing is right on.
As far as adjusting the gear all you do is loosen your bolts around the cam gear than just turn the crank to retard or advance and thats it. I would just set it at zero than just drive the car to the dyno and get her tuned up that way you know exactly where to have the gear at for the best power and you should be ready to go.

nope, 12mm wrench should do. use a small hammer to initially break it loose.
