custom 2.25" piping on RSX-S muffler
i got custom 2.25" piping for my 5th gen accord with an RSX-S muffler welded on to fit my car.
well, it sounds nice at idle and WOT... but around 2.5k-3.5k rpms it sounds like damn geo metro. i'm thinking the piping is rattling against the heat shield thing cuz when i looked under it was maybe less than a centimeter from touching.
a muffler shop said that the muffler is shot, but it doesn't make sense since its off a new RSX.
is it simply because of the larger piping on a stock muffler?

Yes, that is your problem. When i still had my Tsudo exhaust i tried different combinations between the stock and Tsudo components. The catback B pipe with stock muffer (i have a type s), the stock B pipe with Tsudo rear section, and so on.
When i used the 2 1/4" Tsudo B pipe with the stock rear section it sounded like crap. Throttle response was slightly better though. Just get a new muffler. The stock muffler with larger pipping doesn't sound good at all. Good luck...late

ok i think i'm convinced that its cuz of the stock muffler with larger piping
i'm just gonna slap on an aftermarket muffler to the piping and sell the rsx muffler
but one positive... throttle response and low end torque is significantly better than my tanabe

don't waste ur money if it sounds decent and not like a fart can. either remove the shield or wrap the pipe with thermal tape. sounds kinda cheesey but it'll work and who the hell looks under your car anyway.
in a way, it almost sounds worse than a civic with a fart can. u guys really think the thermal tape will do the job? i'd really rather keep the rsx muffler cuz it looks stock'ish and sounds good when it doesnt get whiney. but from 2.5k to 3.5k rpms... its just unbearable.

hmm...
nizmugen on h&a.net has a 5th gen accord with crush bent 2.25" axle back w/ an rsx-s muffler and it sounds great.

Okay, so you're having problems with rattling right? It's not the sound that you don't like right?
Then just keep it how it is. Remove that section of the heatshield or bend it so it doesn't rattle. If you're happy with the sound, why waste more money on a new muffler when this setup will suffice. Maybe try using longer hangers and hange that section of pipping a little lower.
Edit: I thought you didn't like how the exhaust sounded at those certain RPM's. That's why i said go buy a new muffler.
