Default Custom STOCK muffler? Can it be done?

Alright heres the deal, I already have 2.36 inch piping from the catback but i have the STOCK gsr muffler which is like 2 inches. Is there any way a muffler shop could cut off the stock piping and weld bigger piping on? Would the piping inside the muffler only be 2 inches as well? Basically what i want is to modify the stock muffler to match the piping diameter of the rest of the exhaust, can this be done?

The stock muffler is chambered, and it doesn't flow that well. To keep up with the 2.36" piping, I suggest you go with either a higher-flow chambered muffler or a straight-thru design. Considering what you listed as WTB in your sig, you're on the right track

Why don't you just weld the current piping to the stock muffler. But, make the piping curve down and dump off right before the muffler.

Because that is sooooo loud and they've been giving TONS of tickets in my area for loud exhuasts. I guess i'm going to just keep looking for an RS-R, World sport, or Comptech muffler...

mine's a magnaflow....it's not too loud unless you're going full throttle on the freeway. It's silent at idle.

(my car sounds like **** though until the car warms up...I blame the heat shields)

I have always wondered if you could cut open a stock muffler, remove the chamber walls, weld in a straight through pipe and close it back up. Then you would have a straight through muffler that looks 100% stock on the outside.

Hm... I still have my old muffler lying around somewhere. I might look into this. Anybody ever done it before?

On my old car I had a Dynomax Super-Turbo muffler. It's the closest you can get to a straight pipe but not very loud (but a little louder than stock). Paint it black and you would never know it's not OEM. It sounded really good with 2.25" piping and no resonator (it was on a 1.8L corolla, btw).

odd, I've known other people w/ the DynoMax Super Turbo and they said it's loud as hell. DynoMax UltraFlo might be better.
