SOHC turbo....Which exhaust to use... 2.5" or 3" ? Details inside....
On a D16z6, stock internals, going turbo soon...
I am going to be running a 14b turbo/w/g (anyone know the stock boost on this w/g spring ???) at the stock boost for now, but plan to up the boost in the future.
I plan to use a stock canister style muffler for the street, no axle back for the track.
I have BOTH a 2.5" mandrel bent C/B on the car now, w/ cat (plan to run w/o cat), but I also have a single unit, 3" mandrel bent C/B, waiting to be flanged (The 3" is a SINGLE piece of piping, mandrel bent from DP to muffler tip (no muffler, but will put one)
Now if I go w/ the 2.5, I'll need to get a test pipe to replace the cat, if I go 3", I'll need to flange it on both ends. Cost of using either will be almost the same, so I just need input on which would give me better:
Spool, less noise, less lag...etc.... any ups/downs would be greatly appreciated.
Please keep in mind, my turbo's size.

Bump for any other opinions... I'd eventually go as high as 10psi on this block/turbo setup, btw....

You're saying a 2.25" exahust would give you quicker spool than a 3"?? Surley you can't mean that... I think it's universaly understood, less exahust restriction = faster spool. I went from a 2" Civic Si catback on my EX to a full 3" and the difference was absolutley sick, but even with the 3" I'd still get MUCH quicker spool when I'd run open DP. The best exahust for turbo, is no exahust, but since that's not readily feisable for most of us, 3" is the next best bet.

. Usually fully fully built SOHC and alot of DOHC and DOHC/VTEC will run 3 inch.Hope this helps

I ran a 3" and tons of other stock motor SOHC/DOHC guys do or have and will tell you, it's worth every penny.

I have a 2.25" charge pipe/I/C setup I can use.... don't feel like spending more money to go bigger.
The reason I posed the 2.5" vs 3" is that I already have the 2.5" on the car... putting in my 3" would cost more $$.
I know VTC's vote is 3", and it did make his car spool faster, so I am thinking I'll def go w/ 3", even with the 'low' boost and small turbine. It's true that the bigger the exhaust, the faster the spool... the old 'backpressure' myth for low end tq just doesn't hold true for boosted cars.
Hey Crucial.... wanna buy my 2.5" ? PM me on iSS.

Older SFP log style.
Been thinking... 3" straight thru is BIG... reconsidering the 2.5" option.

Did you start off w/ a 3" ? (point of reference...?) I mean 3100rpm is low.. but not super low....
