Steering column swap help from 93 EX to 92 VX
We all know bout search. And of course, not much coverage on steering columns swapping and such.
I'm transferring everything from my 1993 Civic EX to a 1992 VX hatchie.
Out of all the things I have worked on cars before, this is one thing I'm a little vague about and not sure of what exactly to do.
Can those of you who have swapped out steering column's provide me with info on doing this process? It'd be much appreciated
TIA.

1. get a complete adjustable steering colum from an EX w/the plastic ignition cover. Your VX plastic ignition cover doesn't have the cutout for the adjustable lever found on the EX column.
2. Your gonna need a dremel to make a slit on both of the ignition mounting bolts, they don't have any kind of phillips or flat head inserts for 'security' reasons. You need to do this in order to move your current ignition over to the EX steering column.
3. Take the steering wheel off (19mm bolt), take the ignition plastic covers off, remove the plastic covers that are attached to the fuse box cover, remove the metal plate that hides the steering colum.
4. make sure your wheels are centered, then loosen up the 10mm screw at upper most part of steering knuckle joint (right where the column plugs into the knuckle).
5. next loosen up, the four 12mm nuts that hold the column UP to the underdash. Unplug the ignition from the fuse box so that when the colum drops down it doesnt yank on any wires. you might need to cut some oem zip ties too.
6. once you drop the column down, use the dremel to make those slits in the ignition mount bolts so you can use a flat head screw driver to unmount the ignition from the steering colum.
7. fully remove the column, transfer your VX ignition over to the EX column, plug the base of the EX column into the VX steering knuckle...making sure the flat space on the splines is towards the 10mm bolt (you'll know what I mean about this flat space area when you remove your VX column), mount the uppper portion of the column using the 12mm bolts, make sure everything is sitting nicely, plug the ignition back into the fuse box, do a little test drive in a parking lot to make sure your steering wheel is aligned, if all is good, double check everything and tighten down any loose bolts, put the EX ignition cover on.....yer done.
