i was curious which is better??? the USDM B18C or the JDM B16...i read that both have 170hp or wutever but does the JDM B16 have higher compression please fill me in thanks...
The b16 has slightly higher compression but the B18c1 has more torque -
numbers ----------------
JDM b16a2 - 170 HP...113 TQ...10.4 CR
USDM B18c1 - 170 HP...121 TQ...10.1 CR
numbers ----------------
JDM b16a2 - 170 HP...113 TQ...10.4 CR
USDM B18c1 - 170 HP...121 TQ...10.1 CR

i'd rather take the B18C torque over the B16 aka 'torqueless wonder'....

The JDM B16A has 168hp, actually. The "170" number is in ps.
Get the B18C.
You'll thank us later.

no its not for me lololol its for a friend of myne wit a EF hatch...im already GSR N/A 13.0...i told him GSR all the way but he keeps tellin me B16 so im like lemme ask my trusty companions on Honda-Tech
my b16a makes more torque than a mildly modded (i/h/e, itr cams) usdm b18c1. BUT, my b16a will make more PEAK torque, somewhere around 7800rpms. not as useful as the C1's torque curve...which is readily available all over the powerband. go with the c1, just get integra front springs!!!
B18C1= torque and displacement, expensive though but worth it.
B16= a little torque more then d16z6, revs nicely though, cheaper.

what does he plan on doing with this car, drag race? auto-x? track?........depending on what you are doing will help you decide what engine to get, obvisously no matter what you are doing you want as much horsepower and torque you can get your hands on.
but for different applications you can make up for the lack of tq. ie.. a better suspension, weight reduction and so on........ look at the big picture and figure out what you want and then build from there.
drag racing.........as much torque as you can get
auto X................suspension, tires (my room mate owns a 00 ITR, [claimed 195Hp 130Trq from honda] rolling people left and right)
track..................weight reduction, hp, suspension, tires............
it is all about the power to weight ratio!!!!!!!!
i'm no engineer, these are just somethings that i have learn being around this scene.

Since it is an EF go for the 1st Gen B16A since it has a cable tranny to match the EF. It is cheaper and take the extra money he saved and get some CTR cams and adjustable CAM gears. He should have no problem with the power of that setup.
