Default how do remote systems work?

i know remote start systems start up the engine and to drive you need to stick your key in the ignition, but is it safe security wise? can a person take off while the engine is on? if you press the ignition start button accidently will it turn off by itself? how would you set up remote start on a manual? is it recommended and will this cause a problem?

Many systems trurn off if a door is opened, or operate under a timer. Your steering wheel should be locked, and an alarm shouldn't be your only security measure. All of the systems that I have seen have preset running times, between 6-12min or something like that.
