Default Trying to get mid 13 sec times... opinions on setup?

Hey all,

I am trying to plan the future setup for my 95 CX and was just trying to weigh a few options:

First- I want to hit mid to high 13 sec timeslips with a rather reliable, streetable setup. I do alot of highway driving and dont want something that will breakdown on me alot. Currently my cousin is running stock b16 @ 7psi and is hitting high 13's. however this is with a greddy kit with added BOV, IC, AEM FPR, AEM Fuel Rail. I would expect to add all these things to any turbo setup I purchased, if need be.

Secondly- I am currently weighing the following possibilites-

Stock LS turbo
SOHC Turbo (D16Z6/Y8 engine)
Stock B16 Turbo

Third - If you guys could please let me know the pros and cons of each setup (Im leaning towards LS turbo because if the decent power and lower price to replace the LS engine as opposed to B16, this is also why I am considering SOHC turbo as well). And what mods, psi, turbo kit would I need for each instance to reach my timeslip goals

Reminder - I am looking for the most reliable and "stock" setup possible to reach these times. I would prefer not to have my car breakdown constantly or having to constantly rebuild it. I also do alot of highway driving and commuting.

Money is not a huge concern to me, but reliability is, THANKS!

Also - other things like clutch, tires, etc would all be purchased automatically so no need to discuss.

If the condition of your D16 is good, I would just turbo it.

Custom T3/TO4E setup...
Precision SC50 with .48 exhaust.
Revhard manifold
Hondata
..ect

Around 200Hp, a nice set of slicks and some practice, = 13's.

Would this setup stand up to highway trips, stop and go driving, etc? Thats the biggest worry, even more than cost. I would rather pay more and have a very nice reliable setup than have some highly tuned setup that is prone to failure.

I would go with a ls and a drag or rev hard kit.
Either one of those with mild boost will net you mid-high 13's.
The only probem with the d16 turbo is (if it's stock) that your stressing the engine a lot to get that much power out of it. Built thats a different story and more money. Don't get me wrong the sohc can make some decent power reliably but your asking a lot out of a stock one.
B16a turbo is great but not as good for a street set-up. The b18b will have more low end power and tq so that will be nicer....
My vote is for a b18b with about 8-10psi

ls turbo for sure. torque will get you there better than the B16 setup.

yeah LS is definately what I was leaning towards......

Opinions on... B20 Turbo?

Also, 8-10 PSI seems a bit high for a stock LS engine, or is it just me? Also, is it neccessary to have a standalone Fuel Management System (AEM FMU comes to mind) or will upgraded injectors be fine? Im looking for the highest reliability and longevity possible here.

Why not just get a B18C5, add I/H/E, and be done with it?

That should easily net you 13's, and you'll be N/A and VERY reliable.

Although if you must boost, go LS, mild turbo setup, and that should do it.

Thanks EpDarks.

I have tossed around N/A but I am hooked on the turbo, I must have the boost lol

I really like the idea of stock engine + boost because if the engine blows, all I have to do is drop another in. And I like the LS even more cause its 1/2 the cost of the B16.

What are opinions on the B20? are they around the same price as the B16 or are they somewhere between the LS and B16 in price?

do the b18b 8psi daily and youll be getting some nice numbers

im building up a b18b this summer to put in a civic ive heard the b20s have weaker sleves and the b18b will have no traction as is in a civic with boost.

my current b16 was running 10psi daily no problems so u could just swap and turbo run 8psi and be close to 13s with good reliability.

just my 2cents

LS turbo for sure. one of my next projects will definantly be a boosted b18b. awesome setup IMO.

One advantage of the sohc is that if you blow it, you can get another and have it in/out in the same day for minor $$ dollas.

Exactly what I was thinking. But, Id probably have to run 10+ lbs of boost on the D16 to get the same times as the LS correct? I should be ok with that amount of boost on the D16 as long as I dont run lean right? I could also run a thicker head gasket and retard the timing a few degrees so the engine can handle the boost.

d16... the motor of choice for the budget racer. I love my D16 and it's cheapness
