Just a quick question

my 94 accord LX with 104K started to blow coolant out of the overflow tank . At first I thought it was a blown head gasket so I did the following

1. I took the cap off of the radiator started the car up and let it run but no air is bubbling out of the radiator

2. when the car cools down it DOES NOT draw coolant into the system like it should as you can see the hoses collapse (that I have never seen before)

3. No coolant in the oil

4 car idles just fine and no crap on any of the plugs.

does this sound like a bad cap as it is not holding pressure and it is not drawing coolant into the system.

Yes, it's bad. The one way valve is stuck on it.

 

would that cause the other problem of coolant going out of the system?

It's not letting it back in.

 

I replaced the cap so we will see how it goes....

 

so far all is well.

bump, sorry old thread but same problem.

i'm quoting you because i've seem to develope the same problem in my 96 EX. my reservoir tank blows out coolant when i've ran the car for awhile. so i need some guidance.

like you, i also removed the radiator cap but my car showed big air bubbles (volcano) coming out. i figured there must be mad air bubbles in the system somehow. so i let it run until the bubbles started to fade. filled it up and it ran fine for about 40 mins on the hwy. but when i get to the city (stop and go) the temp rises again.

1. no coolant in oil.
2. idles fine, fans turn on.
3. coolant looks to be circulation but not sure about how fast or slow.
4. no leaks near water pump.
5. coolant fills up then bubbles out of reservoir tank.

suggestions?

 

replace the rad cap and do the following

1. fill the car up with coolant when engine is cold
2. start car
3. add coolant as needed
4 open bleeder valve and let any remaining bubbles out
5. top off tank and put new rad cap on
6. add coolant to the overflow tank until it is at the full mark
6. rinse engine off

over the next few days check and add coolant as needed to over flow tank

and that 94 has 180+ K on it now lol sa my friend has it

 

Sorry old thread but im having issues with my 97 GSR. My radiator hoses seem like they are barely holding any pressure in them and today when i got home i turned off my car and i hear coolant flowing when the car is off..no leaks or nothing. headgasket seems fine and im not overheating or anything. could it be a bad cap? last weekend when i first noticed my hoses not holding pressure as usual. i opened my rad cap and turned on my and let it warm back up to see if any air bubbles would come out....nothing came out after about 20 minutes so i put the cap back on..and now this so any help would be great..again its an old thread but yeah

 

you know that autozone rents out a tool to test your radiator cap?

if you're too cheap to just replace one outright, go that route

i aint cheap...its called asking for help or opinions from what people have experienced with.....what a dumbass...ahahah....read the topic....

i read YOUR topic;

i said goto AUTOZONE and rent that tool to pressure test your rad cap FOR FREE

then u can tell if it's bad... or do a quick visual on the rubber gasket around your cap...

what a dumbass...

 

a pressure test will tell you if it holds pressure but it will not tell you if the one way valve is working.

That's crazy. You would think a cap should last forever. Even caps go bad.

ahahaha...thats funny but yeah like everything else, it will go bad once in awhile....sporting a Spoon cap until further notice
