New tranny blew last night...differential pin?
So I'm leaving the bar. I go about 2 miles, come to a stop. Put it in first, start letting the clutch out...SNAP and popped outta first. I then proceeded to put it in all 5 gears, with the car running, shifting normally. It shifts through all 5 gears, the speedometer and tach move like the car is actually going somewhere. When it's at a dead standstill. The trans makes no noises, the axles are both in/not snapped. My boy said my differential pin popped out and the everything is working, but without the pin the axles wont spin. How hard is it to get to this pin? I know the trans will have to be removed, but do I have the separate the housings? Anyone have a pic?(USDM 4G VTEC)
I don't know but doesn't that usually like destory the tranny when that breaks? If it doesn't what I would do is fix it then have the end of the pin spot welded just in one spot, that will keep it from popping out, and should you have to remove it again just grind down the little part. I think it was SCC that did that to a Neon because that is a notorious problem on Neons.
The trans is shifting....the differential is what turns the axles, so I would think I would be able to get away with replacing the pin, or just the differential itself. I still have my other tranny which has a good differential...anybody here just change differentials? Need to get this car back in action so any input would help.TIA Must the trans still be ripped open to change the differential?
sounds like ur actual differential broke...
basically same thing happened to the tranny i used parts from to repair my Si...
anways heres a pic of what i think u are talking about.... if ttually broke.,.. u need a new differential..... i ahvent yet taken the diff apart... but if i do ill let u know if u can take the FD off the diff and see fi it fits another one(DX) and u can just get another tranny... like a STD or DX and swap FD and have urs repaired

Thanks, the diff. in my old tranny is good--I will be using that one. I know the housing has to come off, but once it does is the diff. right there? Or is it behind all the other crap? Do all the gears have to come out to access the differential?

My work is cut out for me...I got the trans out today, but Sunday my friend who has tranny experience is gonna walk me through the diff. swap so I can finally learn this ****. Oh yeah I was reading in the haynes manual that a worn diff. will cause that bucking when u let off/on the gas. That explains why my car did that for weeks before it actually snapped. Oh yeah 4GVTEC can I leave all the gears on the other shafts and just pull them out whole? To save some headaches?
