Advance timing
this may sound stupid but i am just a new baby so plz bear with me
just wonder what should i do to advance timing?
change cam gear or what?
and what is the optimal timing for ITR?
thx a lot!

Timing is advanced/retarded by moving your distributor (the thing that makes sparks for the sparkplugs) back and forth on its perch,. There is an adjustment screw very near to it that allows you to adjust the timing by moving it back/forth. This should be done by someone who knows what they are doing and using a timing gun.
Optimal timing depends on the engine (mod vs stock) and is best determined by timing your car on a track or on a dyno.

Typically the ITR will give maximum power with bolt ons around 18 degrees of advanced timing.
When adjusting yourself with no timing light, only go about 1 mm to 3mm from stock.
Boba-who had to modify cuz he dont like no stinking metric system.

2.56 cm = 1 inch.
18 deg. But i dont suggest you try to set the timing yourself (especially without a light)....ask someone in your area with Integra expirence...its not as easy as moving the distributor.

I have a question about this timing thing...If you know it should be set to 18 degrees, and I know it should be set to 18 degrees, why doesn't HONDA? I mean, I'm sure they do, but there had to be a reason why it doesn't come that way from the factory. I'm not disagreeing w/ you (hell, I want to get a light and do it as well) but just an idea....there has to be a reason..
If you set to 18 degrees initial advance, what's the total advance at speed?
I thought it was wrong....I guess not. I learn something new everyday!!!
Honda specs are 16 +/- 2, therefore 18 is within spec! When I checked mine I noticed that it was set to 15 degrees.
I would not take it for granted that your timing is set to 16 degrees if you haven't touched it. It could be anywhere within the specs. Do it right, get a timing light! Also, I would not worry too much about setting it to 18 degrees as you are still within spec.
And yes even slight changes in timing will have a meaningful effect on the engines performance.
Regards,

If you change your timing 18 degrees advance will it void the warranty? Will acura advance for you?
when i go to some garage yesterday, they don't know what i am talking about with the advance timing thing, werid...
anyway, what is the theory behind "advance timing give more power"?
thx

The 2000+ Rs are LEV so I doubt it would be a problem.
Where's the info that backs this up claim on the ITR's? From what I was told the ITR isnt a LEV.
Boba- who could be wrong, but all
's &
's that Boba has ever seen has a sticker on the window that says LEV.
I think you could go 25-27. Believe it or not, it was barely detonating at 23 degrees. But for peace of mind, I run it at 19 on the streets~
