What spring rates for GROUND CONTROL Coilovers??
Ordering ground controls today... I was thinking 400/550 does this sound good?? 450/550? Or stock spring rates?
Will be used on a 2000 type r, semi-auto cross, mostly street, with 17's on it..
Thanks
Greg

mostly street? I'd run 350/350 then. 550 is a bit much for the street imo.. I used to run 450/600 and got tired of it.. now running stock ITR springs

oh its not bad, but, it's not that comfortable either
since I never track the car anymore I saw no need for stiff rates

I always suggest staying under 400lbs if it is 90% or more Auto-x/street.
I woudl say don't get rates that far apart and get something lower like 350/400

I've been driving Pop's ITR since the EXPO, and 400/500 really isn't too bad on the street. I felt a big difference in 500/600 which is what Clayton was using....
George's ITR is using Konis.. I used Bilsteins, but either seem fine with those rates.

lol just cause I'm not like you NoVA ricers and dont think that spring rates must be high for the car to handle on the street..
I thought George dumped the koni's?
whatever.
I loved my bilsteins, but sold them with the GC setup. The new owner has "dumped" it another two inches and bitches about it being bouncy (car is lowered like 4-4.5 inches now) but doesn't believe that it might be hitting the bumpstops lol

ok i ordered 450/400, with koni yellows.
i was going to order the bilsteins, but they ended up being $30 less so i got the konis
did i make the right choice?

the shocks quality and adjustability will dictate ride quality on the street.
I think the people who say don't go over 400 were using substandard shocks or the ones with the wrong valving or settings.
400-500 rates are quite liveable IF YOU HAVE A GOOD SHOCK.
I guess if your GF/spouse has to ride in the car or drive it, then a less than 400 rate may be driven by that input rather than any performance related input...unless she 's also an enthusiast....LOL...

MD: Actually my car rode quite smooth but no matter what shocks you will feel bumps more with higher rates. I see no way to avoid that. Still, IMO there is simply no need for high rates on the street. Well, unless you are a phat mad str33t rac3r y0!
