Default New Alternator for my system?

Should I get a new a hi amp alternator for my civic?? If so, how many amps should it have?? I found one on ebay for $230.00. Is that a good price?

My system includes the following. Alpine 9807 Head Unit, Audiobahn 12" subs with a 1000 watt Hifonics Zues Amp. The fuse in my amp is an 80 and the fuse under the hood is an 80. My battery is a red top Optima.

You don't need an alternator yet, your running fine.
If you do get one, don't get it off ebay. Get a quality one from OhioGenerators or Stnger or something

I think the average Honda alternator
output is about 60-75 amps....consider that many
amplified audio systems can pull that and more all by itself. Keep in mind that the alternator is the heart of the electrical system while the engine is running...not the battery as most peeps think. If you draw more than the alt can supply you are just providing it with an early death. Our cars were not initially designed to run large audio systems...we just have to plan for it.

Do NOT replace your alternator with a Ohio Generator unless your car is a fully blown non daily driven competition vehicle. They are not designed for daily drivers and will only last a few months. A friend of mine who had a OG alternator had his die after a 3 months and OG admitted they were not designed for daily drivers.

Get a cap, upgrade your alternator wiring and other grounds under the hood and be realistic in your amplfier selection.

What car do you have? I have a 130 Amp alternator for a 92-95 Civic that I would sell for cheap.

What's a fair price to pay to have an alternator installed by a shop?
