quick question on oil pan bolt
I have a 99 gsr and I was changing the oil the other day and did everythign liek normal. Put the bolt in like usual and finished the oil change. Afterwards I found a washer in teh oil drain on the ground. My question, is their supposed to be a washer on the bolt that you screw into the oil can on the car? If so I can't do **** abotu it until teh next oil change. I'll just hang onto it until then if so..
Thanks

yea, it's called a crush washer... it's so that you don't overtighten the drain bolt, and strip the threads, I think.

The last time I ordered parts from Carland Acura, I had them include about 20 drain plug washers with the order. It only added a couple bux to the order. Those should last me 2-3 years.

Damn, well if I change it now won't I have to change the oil completely? I don't think I can get that bolt out w/ out the oil coming out too
I'll see if I notice any oil leakage..

If its not leaking, just save it for your next change. Otherwise, just be quick. Pull the plug & put your thumb over the hole while you put the washer on. You'll probably only spill less than a pint. Wipe the plug & the washer clean 'cause dirt will make it leak, too.
If I were you I'd only put that washer back ONLY if you see visible leaks under ur car. If not then periodically check your engine oil level like whenever you put in gas, or just whenever you're not in a rush... No reason to waste $$$ by purchasing more engine oil for nothing.
Yea i'll just check for oil spots under the car overnight, and check the oil whenver I fill up. If I notice it lowre than normal i'll make the switch. Otherwise like ya'll side, it isn't worth it. Thanks
Also, I had never heard about replacing that washer every oil change. I don't think I ever have

when you take it off, you can see that the washer crushes on the oil pan side. there should be a ring indent. that helps seal the bolt. if you use it again, you most likely won't get it into the same spot and the washer will start to deform. also you will have a slow leak, spend the 10 cents and get a new one!

My dealer includes one free of charge every time I buy an oil filter.

I usually don't drive to teh dealer to get a new filter. It is probably a 15 minute drive while the closest autozone is like 3 minutes away. I'll check for oil spots this afternoon
