Clutch trouble driving home from Expo
I was cruising home with a group of about 10, making an occasional stop for gas or snacks. We stopped at a gas station and it took about 15 min for us to all gas up.
When we pulled out, I went to put the clutch in to put it in 1st and the pedal was very firm, and the clutch engaged very close to the top of the pedal. Then, when I let the clutch out, it sprang back up to the bump stop and wanted to go even further. Where normally there is some free play in the pedal when it is at rest, it was now under a serious pre-load. It felt like it needed another couple inches of travel up top.
After we pulled out onto the highway I was checking it every minute or so, and after about 5 min it felt normal again.
This has happened before, but in stop and go traffic during rush hour on my way home from work about 6 mos ago. I have also noticed that my clutch fluid gets dirty very quickly. I have flushed it several times in the past 6 mos, and when I check up on it, there is grime that has settled to the bottom of the reservoir.
Any idea what it could be? Bad seal in the slave cylinder? Bad spring on the pressure plate?

I am going to vote Pressure plate although the springing pedal thing sounds weird. If the pedal had stayed on the floor I woudl have voted Slave Cyl.
