Default EP3 makes loud pop...

Hey guys,
I have an hks catback and just installed the aem cai a few days ago....
Im driving home from class and i gave it some after some railroad tracks to get up to speed again, and i heard a backfire pop like noise come from up front. I reached down and check the filter and its seems fine, everything seems to be hooked up still okay, any idea what it was??
Can you backfire out your intake? my friend said this was possible
I just want to make sure my car is normal and nothing should be checked before i keep driving it. this all may sound weird but i just want to be careful..
Any input guys?
Thanks!

I've had this twice so far with stock exhaust. I'm curious as well.

.... And it definetely sounds like its from the front.

Yes, this is normal w/CAI. Check EPHATCH.com , it has been discussed there.

i was goin like 2 mph over those tracks, the reason why it happened was cuz i went fast to regain my speed after, and thanks todaCspec, i looked on epahtch.com and it seems that the reason may be cuz my car was not warmed up all the way yet, and it does seem to be a common CAI problem, but seems harmless as of now as far as anyone knows

That's weird, I've had a CAI for a while now and never heard any pops.

ive had my CAI for almost a year now and i just heard that backfire noise a couple months ago and it happened twice total. hasn't happened since. i was cruising at a low rpm and suddenly gunned it, then POP. that is how it happened to me both times, car was fully warmed up also.

I have the POP without an aftermarket filter. I believe the POP comes from the ignition timing. It sounds like the exhaust is back firing. I also think this has something to do with the bogging under hard acceleration.

Did you guys reset your ECU after the mods?

Yes that popping is due to the ignition. It has been discussed before on the forum.

maybe some fuel was in the cat and it got ignited causing a 'popping' noise? what does this have to do wtih a CAI anyways?

it's normal, with an exhaust more air is going through and th epopping is because your engine is running rich.
It happens on almost every car with stock ecu
