exhaust manifold stud broke off!!
I've been driving with one missing manifold bolt for about a year now. Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove the broken stud? If it were easier to get a straight shot at, I would attempt to drill it out, but there is very limited room to work!
Thanks!
Thanks!
i dont know your exact situation... but i would say u have to take the whole manifold off and go from there... either try to turn it out (which doesn't sound possible from your description or else u would have done it) or drill it out once u take the mani off
Taking the header off isn't a problem, but removing the broken stud that is inside the cylinder head IS. Sorry I wasn't clear.
I have the same problem, and havent run into anything yet.
Youre going to have to get a tool (i cant remember the name or technique) where you drill a hole in the middle of the bolt and turn it out the other way, then a new stud would be installed.

i snaped a bolt in my turbo when i was taking it off... attatching the downpipe to the turbo... right there... i left my turbo downstairs... left to go out... came back...like an hour later... and my dad got it out.. ill ask him how he did it
SAME PROBLEM, HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET..
oops capslock, sorry.
yah I have a new stud from A&H though...
looks like I need a 90 degree drill, that can drill lefthanded, and then need a set of drill-outs or whatever from my work to get it out without removing the whole head.
Now, you could all do/send out for port and polish headwork right now if you're takin' off the whole head........

You can purchase an extractor kit at most/many hardware stores. I believe, as mentioned above, it works by reverse-threading a smaller bolt into the broken one. Then you just continue turning it until it all comes out. I'd lube it up with a lot of penetrating lube, and let it soak in for a while, first, though.

Yeah, this is very simple to fix. Just tighten two bolts onto each other, then turn the inner bolt CCW until it comes off. BTW, I wouldn't put WD40 on it before you tighten the bolts (the trick doesn't work as well). HTH, -C
I have been missing the far left header stud for about 2.5 years now. I don't think I have had any problems so I just plan to leave it. I don't think it is worth the hassle.
well, if you have any doubts, go get it done at a shop. I paid $100 to get mine out. If you mess up (hope you don't), you have a messed cylinder head..
