OBD2 or OBD3?
There is no OBD3 at this time.
The '00-'01 ITR is OBD2 but it has a slightly different ECU plug style as compared to the '96-'98 ECU.
So, to answer your question the '00-'01 ITR is NOT equipped with OBD3.

This is a little off-topic but I heard that the next-gen OBD3 will have software that will recognize if your car is emitting improper emissions, and if so, will relay such information directly to the DMV. Scary huh?
and how exactly would it transmit this info? do you think cars will come equipped with some cell phone type device and call up the dmv? cmon..maybe in 20 years... dont believe the hype!
I found that OBD3 thing in an article about how Acme Rental Car Co. tracked one of their cars with GPS, and when it determined that the car had exceeded 79 mph, the corporation issued the driver a ticket through the mail. Not the government - the corporation.

I remember hearing about that. And yes, the driver had signed an agreement. But the contract didn't mention how the vehicle would be monitored. There was a long discussion on the Corral a week or two ago about it. But yes, it is Big Brother at its finest.
There has also been discussion about requiring cars to have "black boxes" - very similar to the ones in aircraft. The insurance companies claim it will put an end to disputed accidents, since they will be able to "replay" the accident and find out who was truly at fault. This terrifies me - it's one step from getting tickets automatically in the mail.

Yes, this is Big Brother at its worst yet. However, most people think that Big Brother is the government. It's not - it's big corporations that share your consumer info with each other and know all about you.

Personally, you can believe all you want about big government conspiracies and top secret information like that. But you don't know what kind of hysteria that it causes. Primary example: Y2K
Trust me...it's for our own good!
ILOVERACING: Keep believing that all that **** is "for our own good" and pretty soon you'll be having American Standard Corp. keepting track of every **** you take in their toilets. Seriously do you think corporations and super-rich people do things for the good of the public? No. They do things that will make them money. Keep believing that. You'll wake up one day in the not-so-distant future and realize that all our freedoms have been taken away.
Off topic continued... The government checking up on me is a little bit scarier than a corporation doing the same. If I refuse to get one of those Kroger (grocery store) "Valued Customer Cards" because I don't want them knowing when I buy how many of what, they don't have the power to show up at my house with guns. Just a thought.
