Engine swap Question: Need Advice
I have a 00 dx hatch and I recently hydrolocked my d16y7... I'm thinking about replacing the engine with a d16y8... Just wondering what all you Honda-Tech guyz do to the new engine... Do you guyz rebuild that thing or do you guys just plug and play everything and drive away... I have found several y8 around here but there is one for way cheap and a friend of mine wants to sell me his y8 but the prob is it was previously supercharged do you guys recommend buying this engine?
It all depends on your plans for the motor and your budget. If you find a stock Y8 with low mileage that is in good condition, I would change the timing belt, oil pump, and water pump and drop it in. If you feel like working, or have a less than perfect motor, you can do a stock rebuild/mild build up for a couple of hundred.
Yeah I plan on keeping the y8 N/A... Thx for the reminder of the t belt, oil pump and water pump, i almost forgot... What about the previously boosted engine?
No doubt... But how bad do you think it can be if it was auto... I heard auto trannys don't shift @ redline... but then again you don't have to redline the engine to beat on it right?
how much boost? how long did he run it,
check the tb for oil if it had residue,
think,
dohc,
ls motors a cheap and a good start.
or take the head get another y7 for 50 bucks
and mini me!!! whoopie...
