Running axles without snap ring on the end?
I'm putting on my B16 (90-93 Integra) axles. On the driver side where the axles goes into the intermediate shaft I ran into a problem. The snap ring on the end of the axle was too spread out and would not allow the axle to go in the intermediate shaft. I took off this snap ring and it slid right in. Am I going to have any problems running the car without this ring on the axle?
...ditto to what everyone said about putting them back on. I ran without mine for a while and I soon had tranny fluid leaking from around the axle and my tires rubbing on my inner-fender. New axle rings are about $4-10 from your friendly neigborhood Honda dealership...go pic some up
This end wont leak fluid because the intermidiate shaft is in the transmission. I'm going to put it on right now.
I took the snap ring off tightened it up a bit, put it back on and now the axle is all back in with the snap ring, thanks.

i've ran without that ring for a couple months with my LS motor, and im still running without the ring with my GSR motor...
i have ran without one for a while on my ZC/Si. for a month or two accually, even with burnouts and normal driving the axle never fell out. but like the others i wouldnt suggest it (i wasnt as educated back then on **** like that)...
My technique for getting the axel in is get it as straight as possible and in as far as it will go. Then take my trusty rubber mallet with the top in the palm of my hand. Than I just punch right on the axel and the force is just enough to push it all the way in. Works great.

the driver side axle wont' leak.. its stationary... it doens't even have a axle ring on that side.. its full spline shaft. the pass side, does have a ring, and is only half splined. if you don't have that ring in, it will ease out, and leak.. however, depending on the length and susspension setup. i had my car SLAMMED on soem 90 LS's, and they bound up.. went 88-89 which was 1 inch shorter, never had that problem again.. i need shorter ones.. started hitting the track, and rasised it up, adn a Skunk2 Drag launch coiloverkit, and started popping out axles.. now.. they were too short.. makes sence.. got back my 90-93 LS's.. no prob.. depends on your setup, and height.. but yes.. the axle ring in needed.
