Need help with 87 crxSI
Right now I have a d15b2 engine in it. I wanna give it a lil more power. Not bolt on's what kind of engine can I throw in there. It sounds like the ZC is for the 88-91 crx's only..Even though I have heard of the tranny bolting up just fine. I bought it used for 200$ and don't really want to spend too much on it. I would like to find a sohc vtec d-series if I could. Also what options do I have for springs and struts for front..any conversions people know of? I don't know much about this lil crx.
Give me some options guys..
Thanks

The easiest swap is the d16a1 (dohc non-vtec) from an 86-87 integra, put in some 88-89 teg pistons and its about 118hp, throw in other mods and its close to a Z6 as far as hp goes. Your si motor has about 90hp and there is little aftermarket. I have had a third gen hatch for 3 years and searched for mods and such, i have never seen anyone do a conversion to springs successfully. You can still lower your car with torsion bars, in fact its much easier than putting in springs, you just turn these adjustment nuts and it slowly lowers in the front. You can chop 86-89 teg springs, or 84-87 wagon springs, both are stiffer than stock springs if you want cheap rears, or they make aftermarket ones as well. You can get good struts just check parts stores and web sites. I have a 87 teg motor for sale with a jacobs ignition, ecu, and the acura factory manual but i live in Denver, CO and shipping is pricey. Here is a website you can learn more about the teg swap.

You have to type that in your browser, geocities doesnt like direct links.

This site has a lot of stuff as far as suspension and engine mods.

The easiest swap with the lowest amount of money for the power you get would be the D16a1 like mentioned before. The motors are cheap and its a straight swap.

I know 3 people (2 personally, 1 I have seen the pics) who have converted 1G CRX's to front springs/coil-overs. But it's really only to put in CRAZY spring rates for racing. You can still get 29mm t-bars from OPM (mucho dineiro) and those would be terrible for the street.
I happen to be selling a set of 24mm Litespeed t-bars for the 1G CRX/3G Civic. You might want to check out my forum, you might be surprised what you can learn.
Oh, and a brown top ZC bolts in just as easily as a D16A1, and if you find the right black top ZC, that will bolt in as well, with some extra wiring changes.
Or if you have bags of money, you can drop in any B series engine you want.
