Default help my vtec dont work

ok i know that most of you here are gonna jump up and say check the oil, wait for it to warm up, the pressure has to be right and all this other stuff. this i already know because i have been workin on hondas since i was 14. anyway im confused as hell for one of the first times over a honda motor. my vtec wil engage at around 5000 like it should. (b16 w/ obd1 p72) and it will then shut off around 6700 with my car then hittin rev limiter at around 7400. my dipstick says that i have plenty of oil but if i add a little (1/2) it will run fine. Now my problem with this is that my oil is already full which i checked and rechecked on the dipstick. i know over filling the oil is bad but shitty vtec seems worse. could my solenoid be a little clogged? therefore requiring more oil/pressure to open it. i dunno im just confused off my ***. oh and i also just advanced my timing according to jdmfan.com however i forgot to jump the service connector so would putting that back to stock settings fix the problem. somebody help

Check your solenoid screen.

sounds more like you have a P28 ECU with that rev limiter. is it custom chip? any check engine codes?

clean it with break cleaner. after it is clean lube it with regular oil and put it on and see what happens.
